Can anyone advise of a good way to share my NTL BB between my Win98 pc (with 10/100 connection) and my PS2. The missus keeps hogging my pc for yahoo games:mad: . Seems that a Linksys BEFSR41 coud be an idea. I have run an Cat 5 from my PS2 already to my BB cable modem.

:welcome: to the site

ntl offer a ps2 service for an extra £3 per month, where you can connect a ps2 and a pc to the modem at the same time- you will get an extra ip address so this is possible.

If you want to use a router, that is no problem, and although i have not used one myself they have been recommended by many.

Alternatively you could setup internet connection sharing and connect through a second nic on the computer, but i would definately not recommend this as a good option.

Thanks for the advice. I only have one ethernet port on the modem, need two to link ps2 and pc. just dumped the usb link in favour of ethernet!
Can anyone recommend easy and cheap router?

If you get the ntl console service then they will give you a switch to connect to the ethernet port, otherwise i would recommend the BEFSR41 router.

As MB said, NTL do a "Broadband & Console" service, which gives you an extra IP address to use for the PS2.

I'd definitely recommend a router rather than the NTL console service - it's cheaper (e.g. just over £30 one-off payment for a Linksys BEFSR41, compared to continuous monthly payments of £3 (?) for the NTL console service - I think the console service may also have a "set-up fee" too...), & is just as easy to use.

I second MB's recommendation of the BEFSR41. The BEFSR41 is a great little router. I used to use one for sharing my BB between my PCs & my XBox before I got a wireless router. Very easy to set-up, very easy to use.

Amazon.co.uk have the BEFSR41 for £32.74 here (http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00005KAC7/qid=1087512165/sr=1-5/ref=sr_1_11_5/026-8012040-9008422)

and EBuyer have it for £36.25 here (http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/products/index.html?rb=575436184&action=c2hvd19wcm9kdWN0X292ZXJ2aWV3&product_uid=37451)

If you shop around, you may even find it cheaper somewhere else.

Also, I agree with MB that ICS (Internet Connection Sharing) is not really the best method to use. It's cheap (cost of another NIC), but it means the PC needs to be on to use the PS2 online.

Thanks for the advice, will shell out for a router. Cheaper long term than filling NTLs bank account!
