Setting up your XBOX wireless connection is easy!
No need for the complications of PC connections, making sure the PC is always on or having the PC within a cable length. You can easily set up your XBOX without a PC and up to 30-90 metres away from your Broadband network socket, depending on conditions.
For example, your broadband socket is downstairs with the TV, but you want to play XBOX Live upstairs in your bedroom or study, simply install the below hardware devices and you will be wireless XBOX gaming in no time.
1. Wireless Router. You plug the router into your broadband connection. The router then feeds your network with your Internet connection, connecting PCs and XBOXs alike.
The Linksys router of choice is the BEFW11S4 (http://www.linksys.com/products/product.asp?grid=33&scid=35&prid=540).
2. Wireless Bridge. Next you will need to connect your XBOX into your wireless network. The problem with this is that the XBOX only has an Ethernet port. So instead of running a cable from the XBOX to your PC (for PC Internet Connection Sharing (ICS)) or wired router connection you have to install a Wireless Bridge.
The Wireless Bridge basically converts your wired XBOX connection into a wireless XBOX connection and also interfaces with the Wireless Router.
The Linksys Wireless bridge of choice is the WET11 (http://www.linksys.com/products/product.asp?grid=33&scid=36&prid=432).
There is a problem that some people seem to have with these Bridges and that's with IP allocation. Both the XBOX and the Bridge are Internet network devices, therefore each require an IP (a local private IP address in this instance). However, it seems that if you plug your Bridge directly into the required setup IP allocation, through the DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol) serviced by your Router, does not work.
The tip is simply plug your new Bridge into your PC first, assign it an IP address that is unique on your network then integrate it into your wireless solution.
3. Alternatively to the Wireless Bridge is Linksysââ‚à ‚¬Ã¢â€žÂ¢, recently released, dedicated wireless gaming solution, the Wireless-B Game Adapter (http://www.linksys.com/products/product.asp?grid=33&scid=36&prid=550).
This replaces the need for a Bridge but would still require the Wireless Router. Although it functions the same as the Bridge it is ideal for wireless XBOX system links and LAN events. This device allows you to seamlessly and quickly connect your XBOXs together through a easy to use †˜Channel Selector Buttonââ‚Ã⠀šÃ‚¬ÃƒÂ¢Ã¢â‚¬Å¾Ã‚¢.
