Just thought I'd ask those still with ntl if they have ever upgraded or downgraded or remained on the same speed tier.

And if you have upgraded/downgraded have you ever looked back?

Over to you. :)

I voted for my dad as he's still with ntl - and in the same area as me.

He's on the lowest level and seems to think it's perfectly ok for him.

When I was still with ntl I was always bouncing between 600k and 1mb.

I used to have NTL dial-up when it was free which I used with a dedicated second line. WHen NTL stated charging for dial-up it became cheaper for me to go on 150k BB than it would have been for me to keep dial-up and the second line.

When i got my permenent(ish) job last year, I upgraded to 600k and have never looked back, don't think i'll ever go up to 1 meg, don't download enough to need it, and the free speed upgrade in the summer will maked a tier jump even less likely.

edit: Mick, maybe you need to edit the poll and add a "upgraded from dial-up" option.

Well ain't we all upgraded from dialup at some point :D , the poll is mainly about upgrading and downgrading whilst being an ntl broadband customer.

I started on the 600k because the 1M was £49.99. When this came down to £34.99 I upgraded. Now looking forward to my 1.5M :D (yes, at £37.99)

When I first got ntl cable , I started on 600k, after a while I got a bit miffed at my upload, and saw the 1Mb as good value for money, Now im looking forward to getting 1.5Mb, and dont mind paying the extra for it ;)

I think if I was still with ntl I'd be going up to the 1mb service. If the Bedfordshire area is sorted out by xmas when my 12months with tiscali are up I may even come back :)

Used to be on 600k all the time.

Now .... where's the "upped and left because of bad service" option? ;)

Dialup to 150k - had intended to wait until the discount (£5) dialup was over, but took a 2 month free + free install.

If I move at all, it'll probably be away from NTL, but the breakeven time for ADSL (buying kit, paying activation) would be quite long, and a cheap ADSL might be even worse than NTL.
Now to go and have a moan about the news servers, on a go-slow again!

I upgrade to 1mb after starting out months ago with the 600K service. I have downgraded back to 600K (from Monday 31-05) due to the price increase - Con merchants!

Started with dial-up, then got 600k as soon as it become available in our area, and shortly after i just couldn't resist moving up to 1mb. I've been on 1mb for about a year now. (i think). And very much looking forward to the 1.5mb! :dunce:
I don't mind paying that little bit extra, fingers crossed, there's not been too many problems lately, with email etc, if they'd just stop using those damn proxies!!!!! :disturbd: :disturbd: :disturbd:

Went from dial-up to 600k BB a few years ago.

Upgraded to the 1Mb service once the price dropped from £49.99 to £34.99.

Staying on the 1Mb ("soon" to be 1.5Mb) service, despite the upcoming price increase, as I split the cost with my housemates.

Started on 150k, went to 1mg but my STB couldn't cope with it. Then changed to 600k and never looked back (associate rate helps :D )

Started with 512k and still here now it's 600k. Looking forward to getting it upped to 750k. If it's a marked improvement, the chances of me signing up with ntl after I move house will also have improved...

I originally had BT phone, Sky analogue & Freeserve. I took up the free install option for phone & Analogue Tv from (then) Diamond Cable & then moved to NTL dialup when they started the free service. I upgraded to 600K from that & have kept with it, since. (although I had to 'upgrade' when i found my original installation was actually coming down at 150K ;) )

Started off on the 500meg a few years ago, upped to 1meg a few months after.

i got 150k first. it was free install and i got the family pack 1/2 price for 12 months!
so i got an excellent deal - plus i got 150k thru stb so 256k max!
then the £3 128k to 150k price increase happened, i complained and i got a £18 discount for the 6 months of my contract left!!

:)
i love ntl, sort of! and 300k will only make things better (but i'm too cheap to get 600k! :D)

When I first joined C&W, I had a 56K dial up connection through them. Then NTL took over C&W and eventually shut down the dial up service I was one (for "technical reasons") so I started using a dial up connection with Totalise. Then, NTL started offering broadband connections, and I jumped straight in on the 512K connection (as it was then). NTL eventally bumped that up to 600K. I then upgraded to 1 Meg when the price came down to £34.99 (which works quite well as my family use the connection as well).

Started with dialup with cabletel in 1996 or 97, then changed to 64k.
Changed then to 600 (or 512 as it was advertised then), then to 1mb and haven't looked back :)

Used to have dial up, then jumped into the big boy league ( 1mb ) I needed that for my skull and crossbones empire ;) , now I have dropped down to 600k as I'm never here to make use of it, still, all seems to be well :D

Started on 600k and almost immedietly went to 1mb due to the 256k upload.

Went back down for 2 months when the stupid 1Gb cap was introduced but realised that I wanted the 256k upload more.

NTL find some way of joining 2 connections together so I can have 3mb/512k connection for £75.98 and I'll happily pay it!!! Gimme speed!!! Especially extra upload!!!

You can get routers that will bind two lines together. Getting two CM connections is harder - I think it is possible - but you have to have two NTL accounts (in different names ?).

Hehehehe well I hope its nothing like the router thats required to bind to ADSL connections together...

I dont really want to pay over £1000 for a cisco router.. and setting up a machine with linux on doesnt sound fun either....

I cant see why I cant just pay twice as much money for twice the bandwidth... I'm almost certain the network and stb/modem could handle it.

And its not that it would cuase any more problems on the network becuase they would still be getting the same money as if 2 poeple had separate connections....

500 (600 automatically) > 1 meg (@ 49.99 then a reduction to 34.99) (soon to be all x'ed 1.5) and staying there until I can get 2M or higher for a 'reasonable price' in my area or NTL start selling me what I want.

anyone know what happend to BwOD ?

I started on the 512K then NTL upgraded it to 600K I upgreaded to the 1mb but since downgraded back to 600K.

Couldnt see the price increase as a fair price to pay for 1mb when I don't download a lot just wanted the webpages to load faster which they did while not proxied but there seems to be no difference on 600k with proxies to the 1mb proxies. They both have times where you have to ask twice to get to the page you want.
