Hey All,

My friend up in Stoke on Trent just called me to ask for help because he couldn't get any internet access on his PC. I went through all the usual troubleshooting steps with him (reboot pc, reboot cable modem, release and renew IP address). He still can't get anything.

Setup is a Windows ME machine with 150k BBand via a Cable Modem.

When he released and renewed he got an RFC-1918 address (192.168.100.10)

Information extracted from the web page status monitor of the cable modem:

IP: 0.0.0.0
Downstream Power Level:
Acquire Downstream Channel: In Progress
Connectivity State: In Progress
Downstream Receive Power Level: -21.9, -14, -11, -10 (keeps changing, and the minus signs are intentional)
Downstream SNR: 30.2 dB
Upstream Channel 6
Upstream Transmit Power Level: 61.0 dBmv

I think its that Downstream Rcv Power Level that is at fault, but I'm no expert on the cable network side of things. The RDY light continually flashes whilst the SYNC light is steady. Everything was OK at about 5pm when they last used the PC.

If anyone could help us with this it would be appreciated. MAC Address of cable modem can be provided and any other details as needed.

Thanks all, its much appreciated.

Phil.

Ring Tech Support on 0845 650 0925, they can do some tests on the modem, shouldn't be getting 192 addy and the RDY should be steady.

Hi Debsy42,

Thanks for your reply.

I'll pass the number onto my friend and hopefully we can get something sorted out.

Thanks again,

Phil.
