I would like to try out my webspace, so I am trying out several ftp clients, but I can't get a connection to upload.ntlworld.com

All I get is my username then PASS ***** and then server closed control connection. I am using my ntlworld password and my firewall is set to allow the client app's traffic in and out on ports 21 & 22.
Is it usually difficult to get a connection? I am on the 600 standalone CM service :spin:

Hi birchyboy

To transfer files/folders up to your webspace from your PC do this:-

Open up Internet Explorer,

In the address box type:-

ftp://john.smith:x1234567@upload.ntlworld.com

(where john.smith is your user name and x1234567 is your password)

A window will open, that's your webspace.

Minimize the window and select the file (or folder) on your PC, use right click - copy.

Maximize the window again and paste in the file, use right click - paste.

While you are up there in your webspace you can do other things. You can create new folders or delete or rename existing files and folders.

To download a file/folder back to your PC use right click - 'Copy to folder'.

Try experimenting, you can't break anything.

Good luck

Ron

ps Later to view any files/folders that you have uploaded:-

Open up Internet Explorer

Type in:-

http://homepage.ntlworld.com/john.smith
(where john.smith is your user name)

hi birchyboy

looks like Ron has answered you main query, for my 2p sometimes people have had trouble using their webspace if they have changed username & password. The workaround is to use the original user/pass you had when first setting up your connection.

Hope you get it working.

Thanks ronald146m & homealone. Ron - how expensive is your Rent this Space? It might be better than ftp.

I tried the direct address input, bot with original username & current one, before risking wasting anyone else's time, but no go.

Maybe I should go to ntl: and change the lot. How long before it's usable?

Hi birchyboy

Well, it was worth a try.

Looks like you're gonna have to ring ntl.

Ask them to confirm or reset your user name and password.

See you

Thanks a million you two.

I just tried again and - straight in, but only with my original ntl username. Maybe I typed my password incorrectly several times, or something.

Thanks for such prompt suggestions. See you around the forums.
