All this talk of the "free" upgrade of service, i thought id try the speedtest on the ADSL website....

Now ive been on the 1Mbit service for sometime, but when I got the test results back I was surprised.

I have the correct upload for the 1Mbit service, but my download has been reduced to 700kbps as if NTL still think im on the 600 service....

Ive just test my downloads & there now running at 100kb/s instead of the 130kb/s i was getting before....

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Could you do the speedtest on the following link, and post the results;

http://homepage.ntlworld.com/robin.d.h.walker/speedtest.html

cheers:)

1st 128K took 1071 ms = 122383 Bytes/sec = approx 1018 kbits/sec
2nd 128K took 1062 ms = 123420 Bytes/sec = approx 1027 kbits/sec
3rd 128K took 1072 ms = 122269 Bytes/sec = approx 1017 kbits/sec
4th 128K took 1061 ms = 123536 Bytes/sec = approx 1028 kbits/sec

As requested...

Thanks

They are spot on for the 1M service. :D

Actually they are very quick

Actually yes, they are fractionally better than mine.

btw madman - I don't know what you are using to measure your speeds - but you cannot get a true 130k (bytes) a sec from a 1 meg connection.

What time of the day have you been getting the slowdowns in downloading? Peak times?

Might be down to an over-subscribed UBR.

I downloaded a 125mb file about 20 mins ago

is that OK? i see al yours are 1000+ on 1st and slower on last :S

1315 seems a bit high, whereas the other are ok for 1 meg connection.

cheers

with my us proxy

Mon, 10 May 2004 01:34:32 GMT
1st 128K took 5258 ms = 24928 Bytes/sec = approx 207 kbits/sec
2nd 128K took 831 ms = 157728 Bytes/sec = approx 1312 kbits/sec
3rd 128K took 1472 ms = 89043 Bytes/sec = approx 741 kbits/sec
4th 128K took 1462 ms = 89653 Bytes/sec = approx 746 kbits/sec

with ntl transperent proxy

on, 10 May 2004 01:35:46 GMT
1st 128K took 6089 ms = 21526 Bytes/sec = approx 179 kbits/sec
2nd 128K took 511 ms = 256501 Bytes/sec = approx 2134 kbits/sec
3rd 128K took 1372 ms = 95534 Bytes/sec = approx 795 kbits/sec
4th 128K took 1362 ms = 96235 Bytes/sec = approx 801 kbits/sec

have to say bottom result unusual, the us proxy can be explained as its downloading from uk back to the us then back to the uk again, and when I use uk sites through that proxy they are slightly slower, but the ntl proxy gave me poor results for what is a uk site and the 2nd 128k is a whacked result.
