View Full Version : e-mail direct debit notice

I was just wondering why ntl don't sent me a direct debit notification, telling me when they are going to withdraw the money, every month.

Since 27th December last year, I have only received 2 of them (on 10th Feb & 15th March). It seems to be purely 'hit & miss' whether I receive a notification or not.

I thought they would have sent me one at the end of April anyway, since I upgraded from 150k to 600k on 31st March, so would have been charged a different ammount at the end of that month.

Does anyone receive regular notification?

Surely you get a bill every month ?

I think this is one of those things which depends which region you're in.

I had no bills from ntl for broadband (did for tv and internet, but seeing as the OP is talking about upgrading from 150->600k I'm presuming we're talking BB) and erratic DD notices. On the months I did get them, they were no use as ntl would take different amounts.

All I can suggest is to complain & ask them to send accurate e-mails, or paper bills out to you. They eventually managed to send us bills, but carried on sending incorrect e-mails too. Good luck :)

if you are paying for a service monthly then the should get a monthly statement if the price is going to vary from month to month

me was wondering the same , tbh i am not quite sure what was meant by the first post :confused:Sorry, should have made it clearer.

I had 150k broadband installed in January 2003 paid by DD. I have never received a paper bill, but I was sent (on some months) a direct debit notification by e-mail, telling me when the payment would be taken from my account. I was just wondering why I received them on some months & not others.

It's not as if the amount was continually changing or anything. It was always for the same amount (apart from when the price increased from £14.99 to £17.99) .

In ex-C&W areas, those with Stand Alone Cable Modems are billed by email for the SACM account only. If there has been no change in the price, there is no requirement for a notification to the customer.

See http://www.directdebit.co.uk/general_public/guarantee.php for details

it is right that if the amount does not differ there is no requirement to notify the customer however ntl do not operate this way so you should receive a monthly email notification notifying of due date and amount....there is currently an issue regarding notifications not being sent which is being dealt with apparently?

Yeah it is hit and miss. I don't get bills (haven't had any paper-based contact with NTL since I joined them) but I get the occasional email telling me that the money will come out. I've had one email where the field tags hadn't been resolved, and I've only just received the email telling that last months money would be debited. Doesn't really bother me - the money's always there.

I'm not too woried about it as I check my account regularly anyway, but it does seem strange that they appear to be sent randomly. I would have thought that I would either get them every month or not at all.

Even if they did have a policy of only sending them when the amount changed, I should have got one last month (but I didn't) when I upgraded to 600k.

I have to say I find it incredible that people don't get a monthly paper bill - is this really right ? - are you perhaps on some sort of online billing option or something

Nope :) No option - just how it is I guess. I would like paper records but I am a bit of a nut for keeping bills and stuff <looks at filing cabinet :erm: >

I should make it clear that I am only subscribed to broadband. Perhaps if I also had TV & phone then I would get a paper bill.

Quite a few regions are on e-billing - Nottingham does not have the facility just yet. As I understand it, fixed price billing on direct debit is only notified directly if there is a change to the regular amount - those on e-billing have a different process to those of us on paper billing. I am led to believe by my contacts that the new systems under Harmony will bring an end to disparities such as this.

Leeds isn't an e-billing region afaik, but I would expect billing to apply only to those who don't pay by direct debit (because the service is paid for, whereas "bill" suggests it isn't). NTL gave me no choice but to pay by direct debit. Paper "statements" would be good but it's the modern world.

The emails are like this, which would suggest that there should be a regular notification service rather than ad hoc or only when the price increases:

Dear Mr Joe Bloggs

ntl:home Internet Account Number 99999999

Originators Identification Number 768304 for ntl Group Limited

Payers Account Name: Mr Joe Bloggs
Payers Reference Number: 9999999999999999999

Notification of Direct Debit Amount Due

The Direct Debit payment with respect to your ntl:home internet account is now due for £17.99 and will be collected on or
immediately after 23/04/2004. Please note that no action is required as payment will be taken automatically.

For any questions relating to this mail, please contact your ntl:home customer management centre or visit the ntlworld.com
website. Please do not reply to this e-mail as the address is used only for outgoing mail.

Yours sincerely

What's Harmony? I've not been keeping up with all the NTL machinations and grand schemes :) Does anyone know if there's a correlation between project names and project success? :pp

Thanks Nikko - I bow humbly to your superior knowledge :D

I still like to have paper copies of my bills - even though I use online systems where I can - I still print a copy of all bills for my records. :)

Pem - Nope. I am the same.

We DO get a bill eaach month, but it only has the TV and phone on. Broadband is billed totally seperate, on a totally seperate day. Through DD.

We are supposed to receive an email each month saying when its going to be taken out, but I have only ever had a few! It's very stupid the way they do it.

Incredible. Score -1 for ntl

All I can say is different areas (again) must be different. My BB is billed seperate to the phone, paid by DD and is the same every month, but I still get a bill every month (in fact, it came today :) ... :().

Only had two requests so far, surely that can't be the grand total of ex Cable and Wireless cable modem or dialup customers who are not getting email notifications or are not happy with that method of notification?

I struggled into the bank armed with £8 in 5 and 2 pence pieces so I'd have enough to cover the DD and it hasn't gone out. Thought it was supposed to go out on the 19th?? Probably a ****-up like before when the money didn't go out until the next month.

Thats the idea of the DD scheme - you pay it in, and then they take it out.

If you don't pay it in, they can't take it out.

Any variance on this simple precept will mean problems.

Simple really.

The **** represents c-o-c-k and nothing else. Talk about defamation of character. I guess discussions regarding the care and breeding of poultry are forbidden? :D

I was simply pointing out that my struggle was seemingly in vain. The principle of having money to pay for things isn't lost on me :) The bank charges £20 for clearly a DD without funds. I'm in the wrong industry.

Still hasn't gone out. Maybe it's a free month :erm:

Since I moved to SACM I have been getting the e-bill every month untill this month. I seem to have been missed and its my first month on 600K so I hope they havent decided to not send a bill and carry on talking out the old amount as I have already diverted the £10 saving to another project. DD to a savings account...
I still get paper billing for the telephone just after changing to SACM it was explained that they only e-bill for SACMs but the account the e-bill goes to has had spam assasin put on it as it gets 100+ porn emails a day and is not used with any websites just NTL for the bill...

When I blagged my way into swapping STB to CM, I was told that the bill would be seperate to TV and telephone services.

I was also told that you can request to have a paper bill still (not sure if thats aswell as an email or instead of). The advice I was given was to make sure that you get a paper bill too... so thats what I did.

Not had the account long enough yet, so don't know yet which I'll get.... :erm:

Hmm I used to get regular dd emails but now for some reason I get paper bill and the occasional email (ex C&W). I did however get a bill for 1p credit for the past 8 months until last month when I got another bill for £2.38 for TV and base package, which I've never had (I'm just on SACM), doesn't even say what the charge is for! I think it's all due to a mess up NTL made when I moved address (took my SACM account with me, engineers came and installed a STB, got them to take it away 2 days later - I never wanted it, asked for it or used it!). A well stuff them, if they want to take me to court for money I don't owe them....:D
