thanks monkeybreath it seems the issue has either gone or been fixed, I accidently left a dos window pinging the ip in question although it was high and timing out when i started it is now normal and speeds seem ok, I can still pm you my mac address tho.

here is a new problem ntl proxies suspected

try this link

http://download.microsoft.com/download/5/a/f/5aff45ae-ef27-4821-b666-d2b6530cbe4f/xpsp2.exe

its microsoft service pack2 without my private proxy its approx 1-2kb/sec a 38 hour download

through my private proxy it is 100kb/sec a 43min download, can anyone confirm the problem?

I dont think this is linked to my previous problem as traceroutes are better now.

could be my proxy or another problem, downloading this file was a nightmare for me, with my personal proxy turned of and simply clicking the link it started transferring at around 1-2kb/sec. Then using my squid proxy server it downloaded at about 100-110kb/sec but finished at 200meg on the first attempt (incomplete) and 103meg on the second attempt, so on my proxy server I got a problem with large file downloads, I ended up grabbing the file to my server direct and downloading of it using ftp which was fine.

62.254.0.38 is my proxy ntl route me through, either that is the problem or my connection needs resseting I dont know but I posted this because clearly 2kb/sec from someone like microsoft is unacceptable on a 1mbit connection.
