Do any of you like the Humour site http://www.b3ta.com ?
I've been trying to look in for a few days now, and can't seem to be able to bring the site up, does anyone know if they are having server probs?
I miss it, am having acute withdrawal symptoms!!! :mis:

It works fine for me, have you tried specifying a proxy server?

It works for me at the moment.

You could always grab a bit of history with the Old Grey Squirrel Test (http://homepage.ntlworld.com/djol/b3ta/ogst.html) - brings tears to my eyes every time!

Aww, thanx for the squirrels, that's the sort of thing I miss!!

Still getting ther error msg, no matter where I try to link to b3ta from: "Cannot find Server or DNS error" . All other web-sites work for me.
RE: Proxy Server- don't know what that is or how to specify it, do know how to look at Internet options...can you explain please?
(Grrrrhhh, blasted newbies, eh...I wouldn't mind, but I'm not really one...)

Thanx for the link. It looks complicated...:spin:
Why is it then that I can reach all my other sites except for this one??
Any chance of a quick explanation in layman's terms?
If I have a go and it goes wrong, will I mess up the rest of my internet connection? :Yikes:
Thanx...

If you have no proxy specified in your browser's options, it will use your local proxy "transparently".

Sometimes they don't work very well - maybe for every site you try, maybe for just one or two. (mine currently doesn't work v well for CableForum! So I've changed it to another for the moment)

If your local transparent proxy doesn't seem to be working very well, you can change your browser options to manually specify a different proxy - it usually helps, & don't worry, it won't screw anything up.

If it's no better, then all you need to do is remove it & try another.

It's not too complicated. You just need to pick a proxy from HERE (http://homepage.ntlworld.com/robin.d.h.walker/cmtips/trancache.html#ntl) & enter it into your IE options, as detailed in Stu's thread I linked earlier :)

This page explains proxies, & how to change them, in more detail: http://homepage.ntlworld.com/robin.d.h.walker/cmtips/trancache.html

Also, I see from your location that you're in Manchester. There is a rather large thread in the Broadband Support & Discussion forum all about problems with the Manchester proxies: http://www.cableforum.co.uk/board/showthread.php?t=9008

:)

EDIT: I've moved this to the Broadband Support & Discussion forum. It may make sense I guess for it to later be merged with the "Manchester Proxy problem" thread, if that is the problem.

EDIT 2: Or could it be a DNS problem rather than a proxy problem?

http://homepage.ntlworld.com/robin.d.h.walker/cmtips/dnsname.html#tshoot

(Kitty - if it's a DNS problem rather than a proxy problem, Stu's Thread (http://www.cableforum.co.uk/board/showthread.php?t=8783) I linked to earlier also has details on changing DNS)

Thanx for all your help, last night at 1.30am I was able to visit the dancing kittens at www.b3ta.com (http://www.b3ta.com) again, and today seems to be OK too.

I've had a read of all the links you provided, thanx. I've printed off a copy of all those Proxies for future reference, should this happen again.
Funnily enough, in 3 years of surfing, this was the first time I've had probs like this, so it hasn't been too bad all things considered!;)
