I can't access my ntl webspace

Symptoms:
when you try to access your ntl webspace you get a message saying your password was rejected, or error 550 when trying to access through Internet Explorer.

Cause:
Either you are using the incorrect logon details, or the webspace is corrupted

Solution:
First have a read of Simon M's article Webspace FAQ. If you are doing everything correctly, then it is either the wrong username/ password or the webspace is corrupted.

When you are entering the username and password, bear in mind that everything will be in lower case, and that the webspace logon details are not necessarily the same as the ones you use to check your email.

In order test the webspace do the following:
  1. Click on start
  2. then run
  3. then type ftp
  4. in the window that opens, type open upload.ntlworld.com
  5. press enter. you should then see something like this:
Quote:
ftp> open upload.ntlworld.com
Connected to upload.ntlworld.com.
220-
220-################################################## ################
220-
220- Welcome to upload.ntlworld.com
220-
220-################################################## ################
220-
220 upload.ntlworld.com FTP server ready
User (upload.ntlworld.comnone)):
if you do not see this but get a message saying the connection failed, ensure that your firewall is not blocking traffic on port 21- try disabling it to eliminate it.
  • if the welcome message does appear, type your username and press enter
  • you will then be prompted for a password- NB this will not appear when you type so type carefully!
  • you should then see 230 User [your username] logged in.
  • if this appears type ls to show the files that are on the site.
  • then type bye and it will disconnect.
If you receive the error 530 Login incorrect - then you are using the wrong password/ username combingation. If it says "connection closed by remote host" after entering your password, contact technical support as the webspace is corrupted. See this article by Simon M.
