Handing VM phone and mobile to 3rd party

Not too sure where this might go.....about 8 years ago when I first met my partner she had some debts from when she was with her ex.

She had a mobile contract in her name for him and when they split he refused to play and long story short got into some debt and this was one of them through 3 mobile.

Anyway I didn't know she was in debt with them until after a year or so of dating with her. They wouldn't accept a payment plan to pay back so I "naughty" me I told her to just ignore them as any debts before 2007 they can't take you to court to claim the money back or on certain things that I found out through a solicitor.

they had her old mobile number that I have been using contract for at least 5 years now and they ring and send letters now and again.

But recently they have managed to obtain our virgin land line and our virgin mobile numbers. I can't speak for the mobile number but our land line is ex directory and we had these given at least 3/4 years after she got in debt.

I'm just wondering how they have managed to obtain these numbers?

Detective work?
Credit companies will use any sneaky tactic to get a hold of a debtor ...from another credit account that has been passed to them or a related company, contacting your family/neighbours/previous addresses, credit reference agencies. If you owe money ...and more often than not even if you don't. They find you, and harass you until either you a. pay up or b. make them prove your owe the money/the debt is yours.

You could try registering your number at these peeps:

Its 6 years on unsecured debts.

Might be worth talking to http://www.nationaldebtline.co.uk/ rather than just trying to ignore it as they won't go away. Advice is free.
