Midnight data usage?

I am having many issues with my VM contract, to the extent the BBC are looking ito it too.

I have noticed on my last bill that at 12am my phone has internet usage if 150MB to 250MB every night! Does the phone do something with VM at this time to check something? s I have nothing installed that doesn't use just KB during the day so what happens at 12am? Also some of this is deducted from my outstanding balance of data and sometimes it isn't. This mass download each night means generally my 1GB has gone afer about 2 weeks and I get charged 30p a day!

Any ideas? Anyone elses phone connect at 12am? Its an HTC wildfire

Thanks

Re: Midnight data usage?

I'm guessing that you've already tried turning off the automatic syncs?

What apps are running on your phone at midnight?
(via Settings/Applications/Manage applications then select the Running tab)

It'll take a while but why not try 'Force stopping' one app each night at 23.55 until you find which one is gobbling your data allowance?

Re: Midnight data usage?

I only turn on my 3g when needed as it doesn't need to be on when your phone is idle, plus sounds like too much to be sync's, ring Virgin Mobile technical team and see what they.

Just one question are you on Android 2.2 or 2.1?

Re: Midnight data usage?

Install 3G watchdog and see what it shows for data usage.

If the phone is using 250MB a night it should show it.

It's also possible to configure it to disable the data after a certain threshold (Not sure if that needs a rooted phone)

Re: Midnight data usage?

How often are the apps syncing (weather, facebook, email, etc)?

You can find out by going into Settings, then Accounts & sync, and checking if

Background data is ticked
Auto-sync is ticked

and then check each of the syncing Apps Account Settings, for Sync Frequency (Update Schedule)

Re: Midnight data usage?

Shouldn't be using 250Mb for just synching

Re: Midnight data usage?

Thanks I'll have a look, most are set to sync every 4 hours so not too much.

Also when I call 789 and dial one is it the same for everyone that it says we'll check how much of monthly allowance left and when balance last updated. It never tells me when last updated, just mins, MB, etc left....does no ones tell them updated dat eon 789?

Thanks
