Virgin 'suresignal'?
Has anyone heard if Virgin will be coming up with a home mobile signal booster (femtocell) like the Vodafone Suresignal box? It ought to be easy given the quality of the broadband available to cabled houses.
I live in a patchy coverage area for nearly all operators...but Vodas system might tempt me from VM

My wife is getting the blackberry torch from orange and she can apparently make calls through wifi, I believe its called uma

Anywayyyyy, virgin seem to be falling behind, worst signal, worst selection of handsets, expensive and crap call centre staff

I certainly didn't start this thread as a virgin bashing one. More asking if anyone had heard whether VM might adopt this technology. Perhaps post Tivo we might see this coming?

They've certainly looked at it. However the complication for Virgin is that anything they want to do has to be approved by T-Mobile

I always think femtocells are a little bit of a con. You are paying the mobile phone company so you can use bandwidth you are providing to them for free.
I am sure they could be handy, but when I am near enough my house I could use a femtocell, I am near enough I can use my home phone for a lot less. Even if it's just for data, my phone hooks up to my WiFi network for faster data transfer and I don't pay extra for it.
TBH, I don't want other random mobile users leeching my broadband connection.

Any coverage issues that Virgin mobile have are T-Mobile's issues, it's their network that Virgin use. Virgin don't own/operate their own.
I'm sure I read somewhere that one of the networks that offered femtocells only did so on the condition that other mobile users in your area could use your femtocell, if used on a Virgin broadband connection would this not be a breach of the T&C\AUP as i'm sure it says something like "you will ensure that the broadband signal doesn't extend outside your property".

T Mobile are now part Everything Everywhere following the Orange merger & physical merging of the networks will commence next year. Whilst Virgin are not part of the roaming agreement between the two networks something will have to change as the network infrastructure is rationalised. While this won't solve everyone's coverage issues it should lead to an improvement to their 3 million or so customers who find themselves on what is probably now the UK's worst performing network. It's disappointing that VM have not been part of the initial roaming agreement nor have they made their intentions clear.
Not VM bashing btw, just stating the facts...
