LG Optimus Android phone NOT on Virgin?
Well we can't find anywhere that supplies this phone on the Virgin network. Is that because Virgin just haven't added it to their list or because it won't work properly on their network? I doubt the latter since IIRC the Virgin service uses the T Mobile network and this phone is widely available on that network. Presumably if there's no technical reason for this, we could simply buy a sim-free/unlocked Optimus and insert a Virgin card. Any thoughts?

Yes, you could just put your sim card in an unlocked Optimus.
I don't think VM have plans to stock that phone. There are plent of other Android phones available on VM though.

TVM Stpehen. The wife gets what the wife wants so she's now the proud owner of it courtesy of Carphone Warehouse. Cost £110 incl. £10 topup with T Mobile. She'll probably use that credit to download stuff and then ditch T Mobile and use her Virgin card. I must say the phone looks and feels pretty good so far - a big improvement over my Viewty.

Re: LG Optimus Android phone NOT on Virgin?
Hi
I have owned an LG GT540 Optimus for 6 weeks now from new, had it unlocked and used it on Virgin network for a couple of weeks with no problems
However now gone back to a contract on 02 and it works equally well with this network also
Hope this helps

Tks for the feedback.
All Carphone Warehouse phones are supplied unlocked which I why we got it there. The phone came with a 2gb card and USB cable so that saved us a few £s too. We're all on the old Virgin PAYG Original tariff at the moment and happy with it as we're light users. The T Mobile PAYG traiff charges £1 a day for web use which is a lot more than the 30p Virgin charges so when her £10 credit is used up we'll just ditch the card and use Virgin. We don't know how her usage will change now she has one of these phones so intend to stay on Virgin PAYG for now and see how much it actually costs now she'll be accessing the web for e.mail, googlemaps etc. periodically. I'm not what, if any, the options are with her current Original tariff but believe she can purchase an unlimited web access addon for £5 a month which might be the best option for now. Anyone got any other thoughts or suggestions?

Eclair is 2.1 Android OS version
unless you turn the function off the phone will use data every day so the £10 will last 10 days and your data usage with Virgin willcost you £9 month

Tks for that Zing. We've been wondering about that and I guessed that many of the apps would involve web access and some of them would do it automatically.
We're still not sure how to work out how much data has been downloaded so can anyone help further?

Re: LG Optimus Android phone NOT on Virgin?
there are apps on the market place that specifically count it. It may be worth looking into an o2 simplicity smart phone sim which is 300 mins unlimited text and a data plan for 20 quid a month
you can turn back ground data off and you can find widgets to switch data on and off for normal use . At the end of the day imo its pointless having a smart phone without a data plan
