Hi. we live in france, have sky hd box but no card and want to use box mainly for recording (i already have satellite but no recording facility). How can i do this? Family in uk have sky and this may help but how? Thanks: all help appreciated
Simple answer is that you can't... The PVR functions are only activated when you're on a sky account with a sky card (and not FTV)

You could though buy a FREESAT PVR and plug it into the same dish (if pointing at 28.2E), that'll give you full recording facility and the iPlayer (though not sure if iplayer will work outside of the UK)

Re: sky in france
The dish isn't the problem ... The OP wanted to know if the PVR funtion of a Sky+ box would work in France without a card in it. It won't.
If you have a big enough dish you can get all the FTA spot-beam channels on Astra 2D even in southern Spain ... I think the dish would need to be well over a metre across though.
