With Youview coming on stream in April, Apple TV revamping their service and Google TV to launch shortly the market will quickly become saturated. TV's with built-in internet connectivity are already in production, so I have the feeling Sky might consider further expansion of VOD not a viable option.

Re: Will sky ever get Iplayer, 4oD, Demand 5.... etc

I think (for once), Virgin were ahead of the curve here, and were able to beat Sky. Sky were forced to respond, and come up with the best service they could quickly (which wasn't very)..

I think Sky have missed their chance. The newer Sky Player is much improved over the old system, but due to the problems caused by ADSL, I doubt that a fair sized chunk of their subscribers will not be able to use the new. improved system.

The problem for them now is that when Virgin started on-demand, they not only had a large potential audience, but that audience was mostly a captive one as there were few, if any other legal On Demand services available to them. Even fewer that would work through the TV (a lot of people don't like watching TV on a computer screen).

Sky Player has been up and running for a couple of years (and it supports a respectable range of devices from mobiles up to the Xbox 360), but enough services offer the terrestrial channels on demand that I doubt it's in Sky's interest.
