Re: Sky Viewing Card Activation
No. When Sky needs to send data to your box they send it via the satellite. But the box should be connected to the phone anyway, if you're within the first 12 months of a contract with them (possibly longer if you have an HD box, although I'm not sure about that).

Re: Sky Viewing Card Activation
You won't be phoning Sky, just put it into the box and all will automagically work. The card is already paired to your box as far as I can tell. Was certainly painless when I did it.

When did you receive your new card? Were you in a 12 month contract at the time?

Re: Sky Viewing Card Activation
The card will pair without the telephone line, the telephone line is only relevant for some of the box office and interactive services or for when you are in the first 12 months of a new contract (HD/ new customer etc).

Re: Sky Viewing Card Activation
I joined Sky in Feb but got a new viewing card a month or so ago. All you have to do (although double check when the card arrives) is turn the box on, take the old card out, put the new card in et voila.

Re: Sky Viewing Card Activation
Mine took a long time after receiving the letter as well. As a new customer I thought I might of had a new card so forgot about it until I found it on the door mat one day.

Re: Sky Viewing Card Activation
Only be worried if you just use a Sky box for freesat. You won't get sent a replacement card and will have to buy a new one from them.

Re: Sky Viewing Card Activation
Just dropped on the mat. The letter says the box has to be switched off at the mains for 24 hours before putting the new card in, does it have to be a full 24 hours its just a record stuff pretty much daily?

Re: Sky Viewing Card Activation
Box must be on for 24 hours prior to card swap so that it can download some goodness.
