I think you'll do well to, must be a sickner though that Duff blew you guys out for Newcastle, I mean when he signed for them they weren't even in Europe.
Not really. We offered more than Newcastle did, so did Spurs, but Chelsea, as usual won't sell to an immediate rival (something that Newcastle aren't).

They would have sold him to you, he chose Newcastle, I think that is one of the reasons why Chelsea intimidate clubs because they will sell to rivals, their constructive arrogance sets them a part from most clubs, it reminds me of the Liverpool sides 20- 30 years ago.
Nah it has been well reported that Chelsea refused to listen to Liverpool's and Tottenham's bids for Duff. Spurs offered 7m, more than we did, but Chelsea see them as a direct rival.

I don't doubt what you are saying, I just remember Duff himself saying he 'turned down' several clubs to go to Newcastle, admittedly he didn't say who they were, could have been Sheff Utd and Watford for all we know

Leeds owner Ken Bates has reported his former club Chelsea to the Football Association, Premier League and Fifa over three alleged illegal approaches.
Quote:
He said: "Because of the financial strength of Chelsea's owner Roman Abramovich, financial punishments will make no difference to the club at all. "We feel deduction of points, banning of registration of new players and suspension from European competition would be more appropriate.
Looks like Martin O'Neill is going to be unveiled as Aston Villa boss later today, a good choice methinks although he may well be hampered by people bidding to take control of the club.
