Irrelevant! The point of purchasing a season ticket, is also to have first refusal the following season. That's the way it's been at old trafford for many years. If supporters had to pay a supplement on top of already high prices, there would be an almighty stink, supporters would bugger off sharpish. Don't forget, some fans have several kids that they have to pay for, the thought of paying possibly hundreds per season, just to have the option of renewing their ticket, is ludicrous.

Smashing your own transfer records twice demonstrates it wasnt the going rate. 28 million for Veron? Going rate? hmmmmm

Things change, football is drowning in a huge sea of cash, still the prices only go one way and if they thought they could get away with screwing a few more quid out of you they would.

Re: Football : Season 2007/2008

the first time I went to OT my ticket was £17 and that was only about 5 years ago now it is about £30 for the same ticket

I think all clubs are just out to get as much money as they can

Let's not forget, the figures you quoted were from the early 90's. I gave up my season ticket in 2005, then it was around £500, an increase of roughly 300% from the price in the early 1990's. So the suplement you speak of, would be roughly 3 times as much (£150 per person, per season) a person with a couple of kids, not much change out of £500. And that's before you even pay for the tickets. Trust me, people would run a mile.

But the sad thing is, they'd be others to replace them and they know it, the thing they forget is that one day the bubble will burst and football wont be as popular, tv money will drop, big business won't be so keen to sponsor and all those people that go because it's fashionable, well you wont see them for dust and they'll rely on the likes of us to return and the really sad thing is we probably will go back.

As with Jose no-one will deny he is talented however I have a feeling the lure of all this newly aquired (and bought) talent, plus an almost 'open-chequebook' mentality probably played a big part in his deciding to take the job.

And to a degree I will concur with that - however surely anyone can see that comparing where the money came from with United and Chelsea is unfair?
You simply said lets forget Veron, which doesnt really address what I said. Utd were smashing transfer records long before Roman came along, and not using a kitty based on the success of the busby babes but with an overdraft. Someone is paying for that, and that would be the fan through higher ticket prices.

To reply to your earlier posts I would say all chelsea fans would acknowledge that Romans money has been influential in getting them where they are now. But there are also other factors which no one else seems to care about. It is not just down to Romans billions.

Similarly what Utd spend and achieve now is not solely down to their home grown talent or their succesful history, but down to the money that is being thrown at football, either from a n owner, a bank or a broadcasting company.

My original point was regarding the 90s when we were the ongoing dominant force in the premiership. Veron didn't come along til about 2001/2 if memory serves.

Finally we're getting somewhere!! Tell me, had Roman not come along, or if he had and only spent a quarter of what he did, do you think you guys would be facing us for the double?

Re: Football : Season 2007/2008

We can get promoted today... If we get 1 point more than Doncaster and equal Carlisle's result.

The best thing to do is to attempt to win, and then if Doncaster don't...

We're 3-1 up and Doncaster are losing, as it stands we'll finish 2nd.
