Close Season Gossip & Rumour Thread

Seeing as the football thread will close soon it's probably best to start this one with something juicy, surely there has to be a mistake here? £27.5 million combined I would say was expensive, especially when they could have signed him for £10 million just a year ago

Manchester United will offer £27.5m plus £11m-rated Louis Saha for Spurs striker Dimitar Berbatov. (Sun)

Bloody hell... Almost 40 million quid for a player we bought for 11m?

Shame United aren't getting their getting their grubby mits on him. Levy has said he doesn't need the money and Berbatov said he's happy at Spurs.

It's a hell of a profit, if his head does get turned, but then you'll never compete if you sell your best players

One bid you might have trouble rejecting (if true), given the players reaction when you wanted to sign him from Wigan

Chelsea have lodged a £10m bid for Tottenham defender Pascal Chimbonda. (Daily Mail)

That story can't be right? Berbatov never has been or ever will be worth more than £15m.

well AJ went to Everton for about £8m Jeffers to Arsenal for abour £10 and SWP went to Chelsea for £25 and i think he's better than all of those, plus Owen £10 and loads of others in a similar bracket

you have to add in a bit more as Spurs don't really want to sell him and that will push the price up, everytime i've seen him he's looked class and has good movement on and off the ball and a good team player.. based on the prices players go for today Carrick and Hargreaves 18m each i'd rate him at £15

Well, as Levy said, money isn't an issue... But moving to Chelsea might be for Chim. Its a shame he's been really good to us. He'd be competing with Ferrera I think, but I don't know how they'd compare... He wouldn't just want to do a "Wright-Phillips" and get paid to sit on the bench all the time.

I thought it was a miss print and the deal was £16 million + Saha, combined value £27 million but perhaps not. I just can't see there being any truth behind it, yes he might well be a good player but how can he be worth that much?

Dunno mate, Chimbonda is a top player but a stroppy git and Ferreira didn't get much of a look in last season, they are definitely in the market for a right back, imo if they are sniffing about I'd sell him

Are you sure you've seen him play Russ ???

Berbatov was included in the FA Premier League's PFA Team of the Season on April 21, 2007, one of only three players in the team not to play for league leaders Manchester Utd

Scored 23 goals in 49 appearances for Spurs in 2006/7

not sure about this one though

Berbatov was voted as one of the "10 Hottest Bulgarian Men of the Year", an award given by the Bulgarian NOVA TV tabloid show Goreshto

Yes - I stand by what I said. I don't really rate him in any financial bracket above £15m. He's good, no doubt about that but seeing as it's United, he'll probably go for in excess of 20m.

I think we just have to look at the source of this story to realise it's a load of rubbish
He is a very good player but worth nowhere near that amount of money, maybe around £25 million, going by the cost of most strikers these days.

You can't tar the Suns sports team with the same brush as the rest of their journalists, they have excellent contacts inside clubs and with agents, they regularly break big stories months before other papers even get a sniff, I'd trust them more than most other newspapers with regard to football

They don't want to sell him, he is in no hurry to move, Fergie seems to think his style will really add something to the team, given this you'll have to pay through the nose to get him
