NFL in London

Quote:
NFL giant William Perry is backing a bid to bring NFL action to London at the new Wembley Stadium in 2006.

Perry, nicknamed 'The Fridge' because of his size, visited the development as discussions began about it staging a regular season NFL game.

Re: NFL thread

Will any Forum members be watching Super Bowl XLII* tonight?

The Patriots are a magnificent team, four appearances in the past few years, undefeated this year, Tom Brady on form. The Giants had a poor start to the season but finished well (obviously!) and might have unstoppable momentum. The two teams met a few weeks ago, and it was a very close game. This one could be a nail-biter.

Do you need more reasons to watch the greatest spectacle on Earth? OK, the Giants have two ex-Brits on their team. The halftime show is usually pretty good (remember Ms Jackson?). Even the ads are worth watching, although I wonder if they'll be shown on BBC2? BBC2!

Pull up a comfy chair, invite your pal Jack Daniels, and enjoy!

I know what you mean, but this is part of the attraction of the game - plenty of thinking time, a bit like chess.

Perhaps you prefer a fast-paced game like five-day cricket...

I tpersonally think the stop start nature of teh game is a massive attraction. Not just because it adds to the strategic element of the match, but it means that attneding a match is a (relatively) all day event. You probably need to go to a game to truly appreciate this.

I have friends who live in the States and they tell me that going to watch a game is an amazing experience. Big build up, barbeques and the like in the carparks, great atmosphere in the stands etc etc. I don't know how much of that is true, but the stop starting adds to the atmosphere, allowing viewers to catch their breath too.

Re: NFL thread

Can somebody tell me how the yanks get off on calling themselves the "world champions"?????

A game that only themselves and Canada play at a professional level. The best in the world - fair enough but only because nobody else plays it.

World champions my ****

Well if it makes them feel any better.

Is the Superbowl actually billed as the World Championship???

If so is there a standing invite from the NFL for other teams from other countries to join?

No, if you check the NFL site there isn't any references to "World Championships"

There did use to be a World Bowl that was part of the "World League of American Football", this had teams from Europe, America and Canada. The league later became NFL Europe which ceased in 2007.
