Sharing a wireless network

Hi guys

I have a micradigital F5D7630 uk 4A-E router and have been given confirmation from the company this can be compatible with cable/telewest.

First of all I have the router connected to the modem via lan 1 (ethernet connection) and can only have 1 pc connect to the internet at any time. If you power down the machine the internet will work on the other wireless pc.

Micradigital have said this: Some cable providers use Mac address authentication to authenticate users on their network. Once you connect from one PC their system will remember the Mac address of this PC and then will only ever allow this particular PC back onto the network.
There is a setting in the router, which allows you to copy the Mac address of your PC onto the router, so that all devices behind the router can use its connection.

.......They forgot to send me the document that displays how to go about this. I have the mac address of the modem (on the base of the modem).

Do you enter this into the router mac address page 3 times? for three pc's?

I have no idea how to go about this, please can you help

Many thanks

Daniel

are you sure youve got the modem connected to the correct port on the router?

Re: Sharing a wireless network

its a modem router for adsl and not cable http://www.expansys.ie/forumthread.a...8159&thread=54 (although why its on belkin i dunno)

http://www.morecomputers.co.uk/textr...=F5D7630UK4A-E <thats why lol

If you connect you modem to the pc then the pc to lan 1 and set up internet connection sharing by running network setup wizard you can share the net but the main pc connected to modem will have to be on

Another edit lol you will have to run network connection wizard on the laptop too

Re: Sharing a wireless network

Micradigital have replied with that statement below...so they have really confirmed that it is compatible with cable.

connected via lan port 1

I have tried enabling mac filtering but seems to be the same issue.

Do you believe the router is not compatible, or setup incorrectly.

Re: Sharing a wireless network

Its a wireless modem router therefore not a cable router im sorry but connecting the modem to lan 1 will turn it into a switch not a router and therefore can only allocote 1 ip the best you can hope for is an ad hoc network
