Help with Motorola SB5100 and Netgear RP614v3!

Hi guys - first post and I'm not very experienced at this sort of thing, so please, be gentle!

I'm trying to share a telewest cable broadband connection between two desktop PCs. The modem is a Motorola SB5100 with USB and Ethernet connections, and I'm trying to connect this to a Netgear RP614v3 router. Unfortunately, the modem was previously connected via USB. I've removed the USB drivers using the .exe I found on my Blueyonder setup disc, and tried to reinstall the modem to utilise the Ethernet connection, but it is just completely refusing to work. The install program goes as far as telling me to connect the Ethernet cable to my network card and from there to the modem, then after that attempts to renew my DHCP settings, but simply can't. It asks me to check the cables are firmly secured in place (they are), and won't go any further than that.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If you are using the Ethernet method, which you should be for a Router, all you need to do is connect an Ethernet cable from the Modem to the WAN port of the router and connect your PC to one of the LAN ports on the router via another Ethernet cable. You need to reboot your modem for this transition.

Yeah, I know - but I can't get the modem to work via the Ethernet cable.
