NTL Modem

Hey guys,

Yesterday night and all morning, I had a problem with my NTL modem, the Sync LED at the front of the NTL modem kept flashing away, the Internet was not working, I kept resetting the modem, but the problem kept persisting.

I left the power lead for the modem out during the night, tried it again in the morning and still no response. I've just had a go with it now it seems to be working perfectly.

I was wondering why this happens, so that I can do something about it quicker, because I had a few things I was selling over EBay, but I could not contact the buyers due to the fact that this problem took place for such a long time.

I've got a video I created, which can be downloaded through a private server:

Please Click on the Link below and Save to Disk - Download Managers are welcome.

If anyone knows exactly why the Sync LED keeps flashing and not staying stationary, then please respond to this thread, its important for me and others with the same problem to understand it and work out to get it working.

Re: NTL Modem

Could have been due to some planned maintenance work ?

Quote:
As part of the ongoing project to maintain and upgrade our Broadband network, there is a requirement to carry out maintenance and upgrades on components which may result in a loss of service for the duration.
The following work will be taking place during the week commencing Monday 10th April
On the morning of Wednesday the 12th of April between midnight and 6 AM,
Network optimisation will result in a loss of service in Stockton, Oxford, Cambridge, Stretham, Oldham, Lewisham, Bagley, Cosham, Cambridge, Nottingham, Cheshunt, Swindon, Peterborough and the surrounding areas.
On the morning of Thursday the 13th of April between midnight and 6 AM,
Network optimisation will result in a loss of service in Oxford, Brighton, Leeds, Kempston and the surrounding areas.
We thank you for your understanding and apologise for any inconvenience these planned works may cause.

Re: NTL Modem

Maybe I was apart of the ''surrounding areas''. Anyways thanks for the information, I could take this as being the problem.

NOTE: I'll keep the video link up for a few more hours incase someone else has a reason for this problem occuring.

Thank You!

Re: NTL Modem

Could be wrong, but by the looks of the video the modem is having a problem locking onto an upstream signal. Hence the ready light not locking on as well. Initial guess would be as mentioned above. "maintenance work"

Nothing you can do about this im afraid until NTL finish doing the work (assuming it is maintenance)

Re: NTL Modem

Thanks for the reply, yes I've came to the same conclusion, it must be maintanence work.

EDIT: Video Link Removed to reduce unnecessary bandwith being used.
