ethernet cards

Hi all Hope i am in the right forum
i want to try diverent ethernet cards in my comp to se if one is better than other
i have at the moment a realtec i have used for a few years since buying this i have changed my motherboard 3 times with no probs
now i have board with built in lan wich i tried to connect to but i could not get any service
is it possable to use it if so has anyone got instructions please so i could switch beetween them to compare and maybe get a better card

a few more details about make/model number of your motherboard will help us help you.
Did your existing motherboard come with a driver cd, and have you used this?
If you go to start, control panel, system, device manager, hardware, is your lan there with a yellow exclamation mark by it, if so, maybe it's waiting for the driver software to be installed to enable it to work.
Post back with the details.

I'm assuming you are connected via ethernet cable direct to a modem or Set Top Box (STB) for your broadband service.

The simple answer is that you can have more than one network card active in your computer at once. Theoretically it shouldn't matter which one you use, but nobody told Mr Gates that, and so strange things might happen.

Once you new internet card is installed, and the drivers are all running, go into your PC's internet connections and disalbe the connection to the card (onboard or otherwise) you don't want to use. Now power down your PC & modem (or STB), swap the ethernet cable connected port over, power up the modem (STB) and then PC. Hopefully you will now have your new connection.

The question has to be why you can't get connection with the onboard LAN card on your new motherboard - you have done the power off reoobt power on on modem (STB) and PC? Also you have the correct drivers loaded for the onboard LAN port and it has been enabled?

Also, check to make sure the Ethernet port is enabled in your Bios.

it works ok now it was because i was not powering modem of soon as i had done this as said by Rob c it worked picked up ok
