Looking to set up wireless with Telewest Broadband

Hi guys, fairly new to these forums and have a few (hopefully pretty simple) questions to ask.

Is there any particular feature or thing to look for when choosing the wireless router? Most of the ones I see seem to have ADSL modems built in to them (which I don't need). I was thinking about something like this netgear: http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/...A3P5ROKL5A1OLE

Is that suitable? And a decent sort?

I'm assuming that I plug the cable modem (a Motorola surfboard thingumy) into the router, set it up with a computer plugged into the router by ethernet, attach wireless dongle to laptops, install the software and then should be ready to go..... Anyone see any problems so far? I'm reasonably good with computers and am mostly after confirmation that I'm not on a hiding to nothing.

Cheers for reading.

to the forum. That model seems to do the trick. A number of memebrs here use the Linksys WRT54g and say nice things about it.

Setting up a router with a cable modem is about as easy as it gets as you don't have to set the router up to connect to your ISP as you would with an all-in-one ADSL modem/router (like mine!)

Re: Looking to set up wireless with Telewest Broadband

That should be fine. Basically you need a wireless router that does not have an ADSL inbuilt modem.

Simply power off the modem, unplug existing PC connections. connect ethernet to router WAN port and modem. I suggest you connect one PC by ethernet first to the router, power it all on and configure the router wireless first (security etc). Once configured using wire that makes it easier to set up the rest of the computers (and even the wired one) wireless.
