Share internet

Hi everybody,

I've just got 2mb broadband from NTL and I'd like to share to my housemates. Can anyone tell me how to do that? I've a D Link ADSL router (DSL-G604T), could it be used?

Thanks in advance

Yes the best bet is to use a router, that way each computer can operate independently without others needing to be on.

Most ADSL routers will not work correctly, as they have an ADSL modem inextricably linked to the WAN port of the router. Recommendations for routers that will do the job are in this article: http://www.cableforum.co.uk/board/article.php?a=74

You need to be using ethernet from the cable modem (if that is how you are supplied) rather than USB connections.

Re: Share internet

Yup as Rob said Your ADSL router will not work, Stick it on ebay and visit ebuyer, dabs etc for a cable router. This will have a ethernet WAN port, and normally 4 ethernet LAN ports. Wireless is also a good option and If you can afford it (they are normally £20 more than wired) they provide a easy way to get laptops connected.
