cabling

My friend already has an account with NTL and connects via a sacm, which connects straight to the pc via an ethernet cable. They want the kids computer upstairs to have access to the internet, so I offered to set it up for them. I am getting a router for them, but just need advice on the cables. Is it "straight through" cables I need to go from the kids computer to the router, or cross over cables ? And then does the cable currently going from the sacm to the computer need to go to the router, or do I need another straight through/cross over cable to go to the router and use the current cable in the pc and plug that into the lan port ?

Straight through

The way it was explained to me is that crossovers are used when connecting like for like, ie. PC to PC via ethernet. Otherwise use standard "straight" ethernet cables.
Oh and you should be able to just plug the current cable straight into the router, it's normally a standard straight cable installed by NTL as they use an adaptor if a crossover cable is required by certain set top boxes.

I thought it was, but best to make sure

I will plug the current one into the router, and use two straight through cables to each of the computers from the routers lan ports.
