Re: 2 computers, 1 cable box - no hub

Switch the SACM or set top box off, switch the PC connection, re-start the STB/ SACM and reboot the PC. Should work fine. If no-one gets the link for RW's site before I find it I'll post it for you.
Have a read through this
http://homepage.ntlworld.com/robin.d...tips/swap.html
it gives more info on swapping PCs on the connection.
Welcome to the forum by the way

You can pick up a router for about £50 that will enable both PCs to the modem/web at the same time.

Yes it is, just unplug the modem, connect the new pc, plug the modem back in and wait a min for it to settle, then boot the pc, and bingo
and you can just plug the old one back in the same way

Re: 2 computers, 1 cable box - no hub

the registration process links your ntl account with the modem, once that has been done, the modem doesn't really care what pc it plugs into, provided the relevant drivers & hardware are available and the kit is rebooted.

How do you plan to transfer the data between the two pc's, though?

if you plan to use USB, then yes - personally I would move to ethernet on the new pc, assuming it has an appropriate interface, then the USB drivers are irrelevant.

independently, no, provided you follow the procedure for swapping, QED, - just don't expect them to be able to talk to each other.

But if you want file sharing, then you are in a whole new ball game of networking & internet sharing, which has only one answer, imo, which is 'get a router'
