I have a Buffalo N150 Router here, Unused, And I'm currently on BT infinity.

The Main Hub is in the Lounge, And I want to Rig the N150 up in the Workshop So I can Browse the web while sat in there.

My problem is that I have no clue how to set this up as an access point to extend the wireless from the house, or even if this is the most practical way to do it.

Any advice?

Ok......seems too simple, how exactly do i stop my neighbor accessing the wireless?

Same way you've been doing it so far - with a password I guess.

Ach misinterpreted your first post. Hadn't realised the Belkin was new and unused - at which point you'll have to do the initial setup (set network name, password, etc.). After that just turn off DHCP and connect it up LAN to LAN.

I'd assumed you had already been using the Belkin and just added a second router (no idea why!) - sorry.

Ok, heres my problem..............


Ive just plugged the buffalo router into the workshop, the wireless light is on, and DSL is flashing.

I have the BT infinity hub in the house, 50 ft away. I have not accessed BT Hub Admin Controls.

I really have no clue how to make these two talk to eachother so i can extend my wireless to the workshop.

turn off DHCP is like asking me to fly a 747, I have no network knowledge at all.

Before we go any further, is there a cable between the two routers, and if so, what type?

(And you didn't say it was a DSL router, what's the exact full model number?)

ive plugged the router in the house, and connected them up with an ethernet cable.

its still not working, ive accessed the admin section of the router, but to do that i had to unplug my BT router, i just dont understand what im doing. I may aswell just buy an electrical socket that allows ethernet through electric circuit, this things going in the bin in about 5 minutes.

Gee, give me more than 5 minutes :P I'll look up the manual for that and give you step by step instructions tomorrow if you want, can't right now as I'm on a bus. Leave it unplugged till we figure out what to do with it :P

yeah ok ty, i was just getting wound up with it as it gave me a headache, luckily the wife gave me a indian head massage so im ok again.

ive found this..........

"Setup -> Basic Setup
• WAN Setup
o For “Connection Type“, choose “Disabled”.
• Network Setup
o Enter the desired LAN-side IP address for the router into “Router
IP“.
o Set the “DHCP Type“ to “DHCP Server“ (this is the default).
o “Disable” “DHCP Server“.
• Time Settings
o Choose your time zone.
• Click “Save“."

I'm about to try this by unplugging my Ethernet cable from BT hoe Hub, an plugging it into the PC, and use the CDRom to see if it sets it up, I doubt this will work though as it's similar to what I did earlier.

I connected The Buffalo Router direct to My PC via Ethernet, Obviously I had to unplug my BT Infinity Hub First. I connected To Port 1, and their was No DSL Line, as Thats For My BT Infinity Hub.

I then Ran The Disk and ran Set Up.

I chose Connection Type - RFC1483 Bridged Dynamic From The List

MultiPlexing = LLC, Auto Detect = Disable

All of this failed because I think there was no actual connection to the internet via DSL.

So I clicked cancel when the screen came up and went to Airstation Config Settings under 192.168.11.1

In their I couldnt choose anything as I wasnt connected Via DSL, I could browse the advanced settings, wireless config, etc etc, but I didnt know what I was doing so I just left it

I took a picture of the Diagnostic screen as it seemed to provide information that may help, Ive attached that.

Bare could you do me a screen shot of the settings under wireless configuration and lan config I'll have a look for you as there will be an option to set the router up as a sure access point which you can still reach when connected to bt hub

bare are you sure that it is a router you got as when I typed that model number in I came to an old post of you here: http://www.cableforum.co.uk/board/19...point-set.html

if this unit is the modem router then you dont have much chance in getting it sorted as just an access point.
