Question Guest Wireless Network

Hi guys,

A company i do some work for is looking to rent out and share their meeting room to other company in the same office complex. The company who would be sharing the room have asked if they can have access to the wireless network so they are able to access the internet from their laptops.

Now i could just give them the wireless network key but this then leaves all the files on the company file server (well desktop pc acting as a server with shared network folders) open for this other company to view which isnt good.

Is there anyway of setting up a guest wireless network so that anyone connected to it wont be able to see any of the network folders?

The current router is a netgear dgn2000.

Many thanks

Steve

Yes, though personally I'd look at why your company file server has no security on it first.

Re: Guest Wireless Network

you could set up a wireless device to sit in the DMZ, then use policies on your firewall to limit/deny access to the company LAN. personally, if a connection was going to be there for anyone to use, I would keep it off the company domain.

Re: Guest Wireless Network

Wouldn't they need to authenticate on said doamin / server before they could access those files?

Unless your saying it's open as per post #2??

There is no domain, its such a small company 3 employees that the file server is just an XP machine with several folders shared across the network using the standard sharing options so all the files / folders are open for everyone on the network to see.

So it's wide open to all kinds of nasty virus and malware attacks without any authentication.

Are you lop per chance?

I'd get some security on that ASAP...
