My iPhone and belkin n1 router don't like each other
Hi all
The problem is that i have a belkin N1 wireless router (cable ISP is virginmedia) and up untill now i have not had any bother with it as i can connect my ps3 , wii and psp to it with no problem but when i connect to it with my iPhone all i get is a slow connection to the internet but i can't access itunes ,utube, stocks, maps or the weather it keeps coming up with either update failed or my connection just hangs.
Now before you all say that my phone hasn't been unlocked properly i know it has as i can access all these features when i'm up at my cousins and borrowing someone elses wi fi
If anyone has any ideas let me know because its starting to p**s me off big style.
Cheers
Stevie

Re: My iPhone and belkin n1 router don't like each other
When you are connected to the WiFi does the WiFi signal bar show up (its usually next to the Mobile Network logo).
If it does show then is the signal strength OK?
Also... is the Router set to automatically detect speeds of devices (ie not set to N all of the time?)
I have an iPhone and a LinkSys router and all is OK... I can even hop between wifi networks (ie my home one and the cloud hotspots) just fine.
Have you tried a different router? If another router works it looks like its the N router causing the issue and you'll need an a/b/g one...

Re: My iPhone and belkin n1 router don't like each other
Hi thanks for the quick reply
Yes the wifi symbol is showing and is full strength and the router is set to auto detect speed, I have also tried changing channels but that doesn't work either.
I'll be going to my brothers in the next few days so i'll try his router
Cheers

Not tried mine on a draft 'n' router yet but it picks up wireless networks with ease when I'm out and about.

Re: My iPhone and belkin n1 router don't like each other
Can't really help that much (don't have an iPhone), but can you access iTunes. Youtube on your computer?
Also, try setting the router to B/G mode, and disabling N mode. I have a Apple Time Capsule router acting as a wireless bridge. The Time Capsule defaults to providing access to B, G and N networks, but unless I disable N, then my old T Mobile Vario II can't access the network.
That may not be the case with the iPhone, as my current N95 has no trouble accessing the network as regardless of whether the router is using N mode or not (as long as G is active).

Yes i can access itunes and youtube from my computer.
The only settings i have are either N, B & G on or off i can't disable just one of the networks.

Re: My iPhone and belkin n1 router don't like each other
I just looked through the manual online ( http://www.belkin.com/support/articl...8231-4_man.pdf ) and found something worth trying.
Have a look at Page 41 of the manual (use the page numbers on the page, not the Go to Page option in Acrobat). Try switching the bandwidth to 20MHz (which should have the same effect as disabling the N network).
I think it defaults to "Auto"
