Mobile networking

We live in a no cable broadband and very poor BT broadband area with 250Kbs max when it actualy works which is for about 30% of the day, however Vodafone 3G mobile reception is very strong in this area.

Does anyone know if it is possible to connect one Vodafone broadband reception USB device to your home wireless and therefore improve my broadband connectivity but still have wireless functionality for other computers in the house.

ie. replace the adsl broadband connection with Vodafone but still have multiple computer access.

Any help is very much appreciated.

It's conceivable but not really a very good idea since all of the 3G data providers that I know of impose quite strict limits and AUPs on their services.

FYI on Broadband Buyer I have seen a router where you can connect in a 3G USB dongle and use the internet on all your computers. The Three network 3G is quite good and reasonably priced, might be worth checking them out.

sure, its not even hard to do ,ignoring any ongoing costs that the mobile network impose, pay-by-the-megabit costs etc.

your mobile phone becomes the WAN/web (replacing the ADSL modem), and all the other PC's just use the WiFi LAN as always.

the drawback is your PC that the mobile plugs into has to be on all the time for the others to use the mobile web connection.

mobile<=usb=>usb-PC-RJ45-wired-to-wireless-router

run the windows networking setup and pick the mobiles connection as your WAN/web-connected-ethernet connection and the other ethernet card pluged into the router as your LAN connection ,done.

I WOULD STRONGLY NOT RECOMMEND you doing this.

dont know how many computers you got but say its 2 and they start downloading updates imagine what the bill will be like.

on average you use say 100mb per day in bandwith, on the standard tarrifs for 3g that would mean quite a bit of £££ to either voda or 3.

I'd like to echo the sentiments above about being careful. One man ran up a £27,000 phone bill by downloading too much data on his "unlimited" tariff.

For those of you who say 3G comms will be too expensive Vodafone are offering 3Gig/month for £15...not bad at all given I get 10Gig and no reliable connection to use it on for £16/month with a BT line.

And Matthew ... good find... I think the Vigor 2820 ( http://www.broadbandbuyer.co.uk/Shop...ProductID=5267 ) is just what I need, although a little expensive.
