Re: Tp link virgin media

If you have been playing with settings on the router, do a reset to factory. Similarly make sure that the network connection on your computer is set to auto, and also in Internet Explorer Tools > Options > Connections, that is also auto. Now power everything modem, router, PC off. Disconnect any USB connection from the modem you may have been using.

Plug ethernet between modem and the routers WAN (internet) port. Plug ethernet between the routers LAN (network side) port and computer. Power on modem, let settle, then router let settle, then PC.

Read Router manual... some routers don't have the 192.168.1.1 IP as their defaults... some have 192.168.2.1 and 192.168.0.1

Re: Tp link virgin media

Can you confirm you are using cable rather than ADSL, and the router is cable compatible, i.e. it does not have an inbuilt ADSL modem, and the WAN (internet) port is ethernet? If in doubt post the full make / model of the router.

Some users have had issues with the ethernet cable between modem and router. Might be worth swapping it? Remember to power off the modem every time you swap the cable or device directly connected to it.

Re: Tp link virgin media

In theory any decent router should pick up the internet side settings virtually straight away. If you can log into the router you know your computer side settings are correct. Please confirm you are powering the modem and router off when you swap the single ethernet cable from the modem to computer instead between modem and router WAN?
