wireless router

hi, I'm currently on Virgin media internet which comes from a box attached to my home PC, I wish to get wireless internet to my laptop but I'm not sure if I can buy any brand router or if it has to be Virgin Media specific?

You can use any make of router, the choice is yours. However you must ensure it is compatible with cable, rather than ADSL (BT type phone line brodband).

ADSL routers usually include a modem. You need a router that does not include a modem, i.e. it connects via ethernet to the Stand Alone Cable modem (SACM).

Re: wireless router

Any cable/dsl router will be fine. Just make sure it is NOT an ADSL modem type.
