Does your internet disconnect when your computer is just plugged in directly to the cable modem? If so, then it looks like your cable modem has a fault.

no never but if someone is on the desktop and then someone else starts the laptop up the connection will drop on the desktop and reconnect

Wouldn't think so, but you can try switching them off and see how it goes...

Why do you have 2 firewalls running on both computers, it's better to just have 1 firewall on each computer. That way they won't conflict with each other.

i know i know but have never had any problems when running virgin guard and zone alarm

I have WRT54GS v5.1 router and I tried to flash DD-WRT but to no avail... it doesn't let me flash at all.. what could be the reason? thanks in advance

So, you've done steps 1 to 7? So, open the tftp.exe file you downloaded and type in 192.168.1.1. I think you can leave the password field blank. Find the dd-wrt.v23_micro_generic.bin and click update.

I was stuck on step 8. I kept trying for quite a while... had to reboot the computer and router twice... well its sorted out now... its updated already... thanks a bunch...
