Re: network security

they think its all over.... no it bloody isn't

like in previous post, even using the same WEP passphrase and generated 128 hex code, i can see the router but it can't browse the internet. Even tried MAC filter, the router saw the lappy wireless card MAC address first time and added it to the 'allowed' filter but still couldn't browse the internet.

What am i missing?

Re: network security

i'm still thinkin bout this.... if i've configured WEP using the lappy Linksys monitoring software, thats giving me the ability to see the router, yes?

but do i have to repeat some of those steps in the 'Network Connection' in XP aswell. I've seen an advanced tab there which includes the ability to add the WEP passphrase amongst other things, will this then let me browse the web?

Not giving up yet!

Re: network security

You need to add the WEP password to the Wireless Network Connection in XP, yes.

Not sure if this will help at all.....

I got mine working in under 10 minutes (including a reboot of everything), I didn't use the Linksys software though.

I just plugged it all in, set it up, and it worked.

Umm.....

This may be a stoopid question.....

You have rebooted the Cable Modem since you installed the router, haven't you?
