Web Space access

Hello

First of all I notice that there is an active thread on a similar subject but did not particulary want to hijack it so my appologies for doubling up.

Ok I have NTL's web space and have not really used it in the past apart from the occasional hosting of pictures. I have recently decided to put better use of it and create a web page of my own. I downloaded the evaluation copy of WS_FTP pro and after a fashion got it to log on. I previously used win explorer to upload but this started to fail on the connection so went with the softwear above. After playing around with uploading files for a while I found that anything over about 20kb would fail on the transfer.....everytime! It doesnt matter what I do it always fails (remember that I am no expert though). Now my evaluation has expired and I have tried to go back to using win explorer but I cannot even connect to my web space now at all. All I get is the message 'The Server name or address could not be resolved'. All my details are correct and to be honest this is the same fault that lead me to go to WS_FTP Pro in the first place.

Anybody got any ideas as to whats going on? Maybe my webspace needs resetting or something

thanks in advance

Re: Web Space access

I recommend filezilla for an ftp client

your details should be:

server/domain: "upload.ntlworld.com"
username: your account name
password: your password

as detailed here : http://www.ntlworld.com/help/settings.htm

be aware however that NTL restrict ftp access to their own IP range.. so if you try to access it anywhere else (at work for example) you won't be able to get into it

Re: Web Space access

N4asty - hope you don't mind me joing the thread with a question...

I am trying to connect (for the first time in a few months), and have had to reload Ace FTP 3.0pro.

Settings have been set to:
upload.ntlworld.com, harehill [username for the website], password [this has been checked by accessing the emails]. Account has been left empty & harehill.

I am getting the error :- Disconnected, and delaying for 30 seconds before retrying.

I do not think it is a password problem (as it is not rejecting it) - but cannot connect.

Any suggestions.......

Thanks

Lee

I havnt tried your recommened software yet but I still cant enter the FTP upload no matter what details I use. If I use the details NTLword gave me befor I get the same error (through internet explorer) and If I use the details you linked to then I get the error 'Windows cannot access this folder' an the FTP connection is terminated. There must be somin wrong with the account.

Re: Web Space access

Ok loaded Filezilla and from the message widow it appears to connect, accept my login and password but then fails on a 'Timeout Detected' 'Could Not Retrieve Directory Listing. I have upped the time on this option to 60 sec but still no joy. WTF is going on. If anybody has any ideas. I have now waited twice for 30 mins to connect to tech support and gave up.

N4ASTY

I managed to get through to NTL, who advised me my site was unable to be accessed to be updated, as the database had become corrupted

They therefore have had to set up a new site for me (which they could not transfer the files to). May be you have got the same problem.
