How do i get my website working?
Hi peeps
I need help badly , i've created my own website using Dreamweaver 8, checked links...everything works fine, uploaded via FTP to my ISP (NTL) following DW instructions, checked links again via 'sync', again, everything fine. My files are visible when i use my FTP proggie. The problem i have is that when using IE and type the URL of my site i just get a 'Page not found' screen . Can any brainbox's out there tell me how to get a site created with Dreamweaver recognised in IE. Sorry this is brief.

Re: How do i get my website working?
Have you got an index page and are all files in the root of the upload directory (not in a folder in the root directory)?

Re: How do i get my website working?
NTL's hosting does not support any scripting such as PHP

Re: How do i get my website working?
Obviously, 2 in fact, index.html and index.htm. In the <head> i;ve got all this stuff
<title>The Name Of Your Website Goes Here </title>
<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=iso-8859-1" />
<meta http-equiv="PRAGMA" content="NO-CACHE" />
<meta http-equiv="Expires" content="0" />
<meta name="RESOURCE-TYPE" content="DOCUMENT" />
<meta name="DISTRIBUTION" content="GLOBAL" />
<meta name="Keywords" content="Type here as many keywords as possible that relates to your site. Each keyword MUST be separated by a comma." />
<meta name="Description" content="Name of your site here - and put here a brief description of your site here." />
<meta name="ROBOTS" content="ALL" />
<meta name="REVISIT-AFTER" content="1 DAYS" />
<meta name="RATING" content="GENERAL" />
<link href="styles.css" type="text/css" rel="stylesheet" />
'title' 'keywords' and 'description' are also filled to suit my site. I'm sure there's something still missing.
Thanks for replying so quick

Re: How do i get my website working?
Try a very simple "hello world" index page, made in Notepad.

Re: How do i get my website working?
Can you take a screen shot of how your FTP list looks? Also what link are you using to get to your website when it's uploaded?
more info here

Re: How do i get my website working?
Can you be more specific about 'what link are you using to get to your website when it's uploaded?'.

Re: How do i get my website working?
At the moment it's www.doyouknowthis.co.uk (purely for testing). I don't use a proxy 'though http://www.speedguide.net/' say's i do and i always clear the temp files.

Re: How do i get my website working?
Is that URL pointing to your NTL upload space then? What happens if you pointed it at your normal http://homepage.ntlworld.com/(your account name here) url?

Paul
Yes m8, tried that and it displays my page but it's the global www.doyouknowthis.co.uk that i'm trying to get working.
Loving your advice by the way

Re: How do i get my website working?
It won't work unless you register that domain and then point the domain at your ntlworld address. Have you registered the domain?
