ntl spam
Is anyone else sick of the spam recently generated by ntl, this attempt to make you pay for other services extra to netguard. These pop-ups are really getting on my nerves, telling me about malicious cookies and the like and displaying pop ups at random times.

Re: ntl spam
You sure they are from NTL? Sounds like you have some Adware, spyware or a trojan to me.
Have you recently scanned your system for spyware? If not, download Adaware Personal edition( http://www.lavasoft.de ), spybot( http://www.safer-networking.org/ ) and Windows Defender ( http://www.microsoft.com/athome/secu...e/default.mspx ).
Scan your system with all three. They should tell you if you have any trojans or antispyware, offer to delete any that is found, and provide an effective barrier to stop your computer being infected in future.

These are from ntl, if you click on the netguard icon on the toolbar it brings up the netguard menu, this has recently been augmented with options to increase protection, at a price. The messages slide in fom left to right, pause for about 2 secs. then vanish, font and layout are as used by ntl.

Re: ntl spam
It looks like Netguard has been upgraded and now includes a Firewall, I am testing it at the moment and so far seems to be OK. Gives total stealth when tested on ShieldsUp https://www.grc.com/x/ne.dll?bh0bkyd2. If you read the Ntworld website its states "
Can I use it? How much is it?
ntl Netguard Total is available for all ntl customers to use free of charge on a trial basis, until we fully launch the product later this year.
At that time, you will need to register with your username and password, and it will be free for 4Mb and 10Mb customers. We will give you more information towards the end of the trial." As you can see it states that it will be Free to 4mb and 10mb users provided we register so I do not see a problem.

Re: ntl spam
New version of Netguard has a popup stopper, works for me, but you can download a variety of free popup stoppers here which should do the job for you. http://freepopup-stopper.qarchive.org/

Re: ntl spam
i would have thought the solution was simple uninstall the offending freeware from ntl and download another free firewall, there are plenty around then do a scan of your computer with spybot search and destroy, or hijack this, which will also point to registery entrys where lines may have been added.

Re: ntl spam
It sounds to me like everything is running perfectly. You have ntl Netguard installed and running, right? Then these popups about malicious cookies are simply Netguard informing you about these files on your computer - it is protecting you as it should.
If you don't want the popups then open Netguard and change the settings in the Anti-Spyware section so that it doesn't alert you to new threats - there is a box on the "Preferences" page that you must untick.
I think by calling them popups you have confused people into thinking of popup adverts, what you are seeing are notifications from the Netguard software.
