Re: NTL E-mail accounts - Unable to create additional accounts

I just joined NTL and got exactly the same problem: 'InvalidCosDomain'

Browsing the internet it looks like this problem goes back to 2004 (!)

The only way round this problem is to contact the helpdesk and let them create additional accounts for you.

invalidcosdomain
Just set the motherinlaw up on NTL/virginmedia or wahtever they are called now - devil you know approach!
Getting this invalidcosdoamain error.
Are there any NTL techs who can tell us if we are wasting our time!
cheers.
okay just done a test and managed to set up another email on my own acct. so still not sure whats going on. Just read on another thread that one needs to get added to an SABS databse - so not sure what that means.

Invalid Cos Domain is an error our end. It is ongoing, it cannot be identified why it happens, and there is no estimated fix time.

Sorry if that sounds vague, but from what I can gather, any accounts that currently get that message will always get it, and so to set up new addresses you will have to contact tech support.

On the flip side, its free from your ntl line, calls usually get through to us within a minute these days, and it only takes us two minutes (ish) to set up the accounts for you :-)

NTL E-mail accounts - InvalidCosDomain - Unable to create additional accounts

Yep can verify that. Just ended up calling them,
If calling from a BT or other provider lines 0845 454 1111
If calling from a Virgin Media landline 151 (free)
1st attempt:
Got through to a very *unhelpful* tech support bloke first, but just promptly thanked him for being no help help whatsoever, and then redialed.
2nd Attempt:
Got through to a very helpful person, Pete - so thanks Pete.
Who suggested the work around they have currently.
Let them set up the email account names for example email.account01@ntlworld.com through to email.account11@ntlworld.com
Then you can go in an modify them. Make sure you get them to set up all of them.
So that's what I done, then went make and modified them and the passwords to what I wanted.
Not Ideal as they have sold us a package where we are supposed to be able to create and delete our own email accounts, I thought.#
Hope it all helps.

They keep saying they are looking in to it so if we all send e-mails complaining at least once every day they should get the message.

Re: NTL E-mail accounts - Unable to create additional accounts

I have this problem on two different broadband accounts that I have access to. The first I have had for about 6 years and it's just started to give the InvalidCosDomain message, the second is a new connection which has given the message from the day it was installed.

I appreciate that people are getting new email accounts set up fairly quickly by phoning them but they now charge to call the broadband support number....I really don't want to be paying to fix their own system. If I want to get ripped off I'll answer one of the 419 scam emails!

Anyone got them to refund the cost of the phone call?

Re: NTL E-mail accounts - Unable to create additional accounts

So they still haven't fixed the invalidcosdomain errors... this has been ongoing for many months.

The real issue is caused by the new ViRgin Media Registration and the Old ntl: internet database on SOME accounts, hence it doesn't affect everyone. I don't work for Virgin Media anymore, I've got a proper IT job now but this particular issue will probably not be resolved until the NEW database is created, this could be a long time.

Call the 0906 premium line if you get the cosdomain error, you WILL be refunded for the call, make sure you know your security word (usually your mother's maiden name) the Tech will add the new mail account for you manually.

I USED TO WORK FOR VIRGIN MEDIA BUT I'M K NOW!

Re: NTL E-mail accounts - InvalidCosDomain - Unable to create additional accounts

I have just moved back to NTL / Virginmedia and have had the invalid Cos Domain message. I think Ill try as you suggest and see how it goes.

As for anyone who want to know why I would move back to NTL from PlusNet. Just think about only being able to recive a 512mb connection while paying for upto 8mb. And then only when all the other people on the exchange are not online. It got so bad it was quicker to connect via my mobile. Thanks BT and Plus Net for not caring about the users.

Re: NTL E-mail accounts - Unable to create additional accounts

i have had this problem for the last three months! The quickest way round this problem i found to setup my family's email was to use the free pop servers online!

www.bluebottle.com is the best i've found its spam system makes virgins look silly! and its add free.

www.lavabit.com nice easy add free

www.inbox.com some adds in email but online file storage included.

All offer free services or you can pay to increase your mail storage!
All are pop3/smtp so you can access them from outlook ect.

setup as many boxes as you like and never get an invalid cos.domain

Hope this can be of use to someone!

Re: NTL E-mail accounts - Unable to create additional accounts

Same problem discovered today - Invalid Cos domain. Then I found this site. Took the advice above and dialled the 151/0906... number and got them to set some up for me.
Got the call cost refunded.
The only problem now is that the name for the accoun that I tried and failed to set up (and several variations of it, in case the problem was with what I was doing) are now `used' and so I cannot have.
The suggested remedy was `put a number at the end', which we've done for now but is not ideal.
Does anybody know of a way to get these email names back, or are they gone forever?

Re: NTL E-mail accounts - Unable to create additional accounts

Hi all,

I've been getting the dreaded InvalidCosDomain message as well. I used the help section and emailled them from there with a strongly worded complaint. They replied the next working day after having set up (some) of my 'spare' email addresses. Not ideal but it (sort of) worked!

Regards,

Alan

Re: NTL E-mail accounts - Unable to create additional accounts

I've only ever seen InvalidCOSDomain when you type the entire address in the box IE blah.blah@ntlworld.com instead of blah.blah as the @ntlworld.com bit is added automatically.
