Thunderbird and NTL

I noticed an Outlook Express guide to setting up an NTL email account but no Thunderbird. I know it can be done I just can't remember how! I've looked round and round for the correct port numbers to use and whatnot but to no avail. I know the address of the incoming and outgoing pop3 and smtp servers I just don't the other bits. Please help!

Re: Thunderbird and NTL

Default port numbers are ok in Thunderbird, incoming pop.ntlworld.com port 110, outgoing server smtp.ntlworld.com port 25.

I seem to remember that you can import your email accounts from OE quite easily through Thunderbird.

Open Thunderbird then click on tools>import, and select settings.

Re: Thunderbird and NTL

Thanks for the quick replies! What about the secure connection for incoming and outgoing? TLS, TLS if available or SSL? Do I need secure authentication?

I've just installed a new OS so dont have my old Thunderbird or Outlook options etc.

Thank you.

Have you checked your firewall settings are not blocking Thunderbird in any way?

Sorry, can you be a bit more clear? Are you saying that you are able to access your gmail account ok in Thunderbird? If so it could be that Thunderbird is allowed to connect to some ports but not others, for example your firewall may not know of Thunderbird by default as being an email program where it would already know about OE. Therefore you firewall could be blocking any programs from connecting to port 110 except for OE as it specifically recognises it as an email program. Can't really explain to clearly right now, but hopefully you understand what I'm trying to get at....

Re: Thunderbird and NTL

Sorry I can't type, meant to say my firewall ISN'T blocking Thunderbird because my gmail account which I have set up in Thunderbird works. But I will check to see if my firewall is blocking those ports.

Back later...

No joy, checked my firewall settings, everything is fine there.
