ntl webspace

I am trying to activate ntl webspace for my daughter who is on an ntl broadband freedom package.

I thought I could just go into http://homepage.ntlworld.com/her_user_name.
When I tried this I got a 'page not available' error.

I then tried loading a webpage to the above from Microsoft Publisher, but I got the same error message.

Must I first activate the webspace in some way before I can use it?
If so, how?

I do not wish to use Terrapin FTP.

Regards,
David

Re: ntl webspace

Hi,

Before anything will appear on your webspace you must have uploaded at least one page called index.html to your space. You need to do that by using an ftp client but if you do not like Terripin then why not try filezilla which is freeware. Its easy to use and does all one needs.

To upload your page log into your ftp space by using your ntl username and your password at teh following ftp address -- upload.ntlworld.com

Hope that helps.

Re: ntl webspace

As Ken stated you will not get any joy from the webspace until you upload a file of some sort to it.

Re: ntl webspace

For simple stuff you can use Internet Explorer to upload your files.

In the address bar, enter:- ftp://user.name@upload.ntlworld.com. (where user.name is your email user name without the @ntlworld.com bit).

You will be prompted for your password (the same as you use for your emails).

edit...whoops, posted at the same time as Paul.

Just a thought. You are trying to upload / access this from your daughter's PC aren't you? It's just that you cannot access your NTL webspace from someone elses PC at a different destination.

Re: ntl webspace

Thanks for all the advice.

I succeeded in uploading files to my daughter's ntl webspace while I was visiting her.

I have just been trying to upload from my own computer without success. I began to wonder if I needed to have an ntl account to do so.

Then I read MJB's reply. Am I right in saying that even if I had an ntl account it would not matter - I need to do it from my daughter's computer?

(This must be different from Blueyonder. My son can access my free web space. He has the same ISP as me, but the Blueyonder helpline said that even if he was on a different ISP he could still access my webspace.)

Re: ntl webspace

Afaik, the 'upload' ftp site for NTLWorld is only available from an NTL ip address. So with the correct logon details you should be able to add files from any NTL connection.
