Exclamation mac monkey with ftp problems

howdo all
I'm having problems and i'm wondering if you could help me?
I've got this rash and its all around my ... erm.. hang on, wrong forum...

*AHEM*

I'm trying to connect to my webspace with NTL. I'm in Leeds/Bradford using Transmit 1.7 on a Mac using os9. I can connect to a million other ftp sites but the one i want.
I am following the instructions i have been sent by NTL support and am inputting the details as follows:

address: ftp:/upload.ntlworld.com
username: *my username*
password: *my password*
directory:

leaving the 'directory' box empty as i have never been told what to put in.
When i try to connect, i get this error:
"Cant connect to server.
The server you are trying to reach is not responding.
Verify that the server address is typed correctly."

When i try at home using terrapin on a PC over our NTL cable broadband connection, it seems to connect to a server but sits at the 'refreshing folder' status and will never load any info up.

Please help... this is driving me more nuts than i already am..

Try calling bb tech support up. Sometimes the webspace is not enabled on new bb accounts.

And welcome to Cable Forum as well.

Re: mac monkey with ftp problems

Well, it won't work on your Mac, as it sounds like the Mac is not connected to the NTL Broadband service. They won't let you at your webspace except when you use your NTL service to access it.

As for the PC, at home - well, that's a different problem and I frankly don't have a clue. Hopefully someone else will be along with some ideas shortly. Sit tight!

to Cable Forum, by the way.

Re: mac monkey with ftp problems

well we've been with ntl broadband for at least as long as i can remember - as soon as it came into our area.. must be well over a year now maybe two.. so we're not exactly 'new'
and i think it's a little harsh that i can't access it over a non-ntl connection.. so that means i have to go 10 miles home and try connect there everytime i want to update?

anyone know of any free, stable webspace anywhere?

Thanks for the welcome..

Re: mac monkey with ftp problems

Chris T is right...if you want to connect to you web space you need to connect through your NTL broadband connection. This is a real pain as at work I have a nice fast JANET connection to the 'net which means my upload speeds aren't limited as they are on NTL....ho hum

As for free web space, have a look here someone else might know of some others...

Re: mac monkey with ftp problems

Just one note mind.. unlesss Transmit is different to most other FTP packages the address you need to enter is just upload.ntlworld.com, not ftp:/upload.ntlworld.com (or even, indeed, ftp://upload.ntlworld.com)

Re: mac monkey with ftp problems

I've got the same combination - Mac/NTL/Transmit

I've found that my problem is to do with secure webpages, and its only happened since NTL alleged big "upgrade". Can you access hotmail or any secure webpages?
