Re: NTL world email refusing to send-again!!
Been having the same problem myself today. It seems to play up every few weeks.
I have a number of different outgoing smtp connections set up in my Thunderbird allowing me to change easily when it isn playing up again so I have changed from having my default NTL smtp server (465) to using a virginmedia server (465). When using the VM servers with NTLWorld accounts you have to put in your username@ntlworld.com rather than just username.
I cannot log into My VM either - it just hangs on loading...

Listening to the news on my cable box and that has just suddenly rebooted while typing the above as well.

Re: NTL world email refusing to send-again!!
I've had this problem a few times now. I've tried all the recommended changes to the settings, but still the same, can receive but can't send. Finally after a few frustrating days I did a system restore to a week ago when Windows Live Mail worked properly. Success! it's all o.k. now. Funny thing though, my throwaway yahoo.com email was working with no problem at all.

still no luck with my NTL email. I just give up! Maybe it`s because I`m no longer a virgin media customer? Although a few mates have said that shouldn`t make any difference.

If you're no longer a customer of VM they will delete the mailboxes (eventually) and make your passwords etc invalid. After all, if they've made my BB specific mailboxes inaccessable just when I've been tardy about paying the bill, they're certainly going to take them down when you leave them.
Whether you can still use the outgoing server(s) will depend upon whether your new ISP is piggybacked on VMs infrastructure and your username being valid inside VM's network. For example I can access them from my Vodafone 3G dongle using Thunderbird with my ntlworld.com and virgin.net names and passwords
VM, like most ISPs, only allow access to their SMTP servers from within their network to help prevent them being hijacked by spammers or if they are then VM can locate the spam source.

Thanks for that information. The anoying thing though is that I wasn`t given any warning and almost missed paying various bills because the N.T.L email was their way of comunicating with me about my latest bills.

Re: NTL world email refusing to send-again!!
I had different problems this week. When opening PC W7 Outlook 2007, the last month's NTL emails were downloaded as duplicates - twice but not consecutively. I had been using the REC: prefix on PC and laptop. A VM engineer remotely changed the NTL outgoing server to VM on Outlook, which seems to be OK.
Then a new glitch, every email sent was also received in my inbox. I removed the REC: prefix which solved the problem, but emails only arrive on one machine or the other which is not a problem as I can only use one computer at a time!
I am wondering why there was no advance notice from VM about the change of server and why my Vista laptop Outlook 2007 has not been affected and therefore unchanged.

Re: NTL world email refusing to send-again!!
My email has stopped working on Outlook 2003 (windows 7) this week. Tried all the suggestions here but nothing seems to work. Gave up ringing NTL over this as I had press so many buttons and I could not get through. It is clearly down to NTL changing their servers.
Thankfully I can still see my emails via web access and I will have to wait till NTL get their act together.
