Initial emails refuse to send via Windows Mail
I've been having a problem sending email using Windows Mail, been having this for some time (since moving external Domain Name between providers in March 2012)
When I have finished composing the email and press send I immediately receive a message warning that looks like this :
An unknown error has occurred. Subject 'SUBJECT', Server: 'smtp.blueyonder.co.uk', Protocol: SMTP, Server Response: '421 know-smtpout-3.server.virginmedia.net: Too many concurrent SMTP connections; please try again later', Port: 465, Secure(SSL): Yes, Server Error: 421, Error Number: 0x800CCC67

Re: Initial emails refuse to send via Windows Mail
< 'smtp.blueyonder.co.uk'>
You could try changing the server(s) to virginmedia.com.
In full for POP access:
Incoming server:
pop3.virginmedia.com
SSL = yes
incoming port number = 995
account/user name = full email address emailaddress@blueyonder.co.uk
Outgoing server settings:
smtp.virginmedia.com
SSL = yes
outgoing port number - 465

I've tried that before and it doesn't work on my blueyonder.co.uk email addresses
Tried again :
An unknown error has occurred. Subject 'SUBJECT', Account: 'ACCOUNT', Server: 'smtp.virginmedia.com', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 465, Secure(SSL): Yes, Error Number: 0x800CCC0B
Equally, I received an email a long time ago about email changes and it included information that I had to continue using blueyonder.co.uk the virginmedia.com email settings were not going to be applied to my account

That is referring to your email address itself (not the servers). They were proposing the allow us to change from e.g. "m8internet@blueyonder.co.uk" to "m8internet@virginmedia.com" - but it was abandoned.

If changing servers didn't work, then have a look through this post on Virgin forum to see if there is anything else

Re: Initial emails refuse to send via Windows Mail
Hmm, looks like it was even simpler to solve and so far so good...
I had changed the account username from emailaccount@blueyonder.co.uk to accountalias, as per the insructions received some time ago
It appears to have changed to accountalias@blueyonder.co.uk but I have never received any advisory to make this change
