user name or password incorrect

user name or password incorrect

Hi guys

I created a new mailbox last night (see "adding new mailbox query" a few posts below). I got an e-mail telling me it had been created and a test message which i then sent to the new (@virginmedia) account using my old pc had been received (checked via webmail). However when i try and set up the account on my new pc in thunderbird 11 on windows 7 it keeps telling me the user name or password is incorrect. I changed the auto detected googlemail pop/smtp settings to the virginmedia ones but still no joy.
Has anybody any idea what the problem could be. I fear i'm in for a long frustrating call to VM Indian division.

thanks th, i had looked at that page previously but your reply prompted me to look again and i spotted the problem (i'd put the pop setting as pop.virginmedia.com as it was/is still i think for @ntlworld pop) seems i need a "3" afterwards. anyhow thanks for pointing me to the ultimately simple solution.

Try webmail, via MYVM, if it works, its your PC, follow the guides, wouldn't call them for anything outside an obvious error.

Yes webmail works fine, just omitted the "3" in the pop details when setting it up in Thunderbird.
