catch 22 with VirginMedia webspace

I have downloaded and paid for smart ftp and have some webpages ready to upload, but couldn’t connect to my virginmedia web space apparently owing to having a dot in the username of my email address d.gillanders@virginmedia.com

I learned that I am able to change this and set about doing so and even got an email telling me “All done! Your My Virgin Media username has been changed to dgillanders@virginmedia.com. From now on, you'll need to use your new username to sign in to My Virgin Media.”

So I attempted to sign in using my new username without the offensive dot and was informed that I need to (quote): “Check the inbox for your email address dgillanders@virginmedia.com and look for an email from Virgin Media”
My problem, how can I click on to confirm an email sent to an email address that I need to confirm before signing into?

I click the box to have another email sent and checked again, but could only get into the email address that was supposed to have changed and can’t get into the one without the dot and I think I’m going dotty!

Can anyone tell me if I’m missing something simple? I seem to be trapped in a catch 22 and its driving me crazy!

Thank you for your time and in anticipation of your help.

Regards,

D (.) Gillanders.

to the form. Please bear in mind that we are not owned by Virgin Media, so while we do have some VM staff as members, they may or may not be able to help. You may be better off contacting Virgin Media directly as they will need to look at your account.

Somewhere along the line there has been a mix up between username and e-mail address

What you've currently tried to do is change the username for My VM to an e-mail address that doesn't exist, rather than set up a new email address which you can then use for webspace

Follow these instructions which include how to set up a mailbox you can use for webspace:

How do I set up Webspace?

There is no reason the dot would stop you logging in. Whats the error you see ?

Once you have corrected as Ben as said, you need to get support to raise to IT to resolve an issue, I'm guess 530 or 550 error.

From what the OP has said there isn't an IT error that needs to be raised - the only issue is that fact you can't use a username with a fullstop for webspace

So they only need to correctly set up a mailbox which is allowed and they will be fine

That's not how I'm reading it ..

To me he is saying his real address is d.gillanders@virginmedia.com but he was told this wouldn't work with his PWP, so he changed it via the profiles to dgillanders@virginmedia.com which of course he can't confirm as it's not a real address (or wasn't when he created the log in for it).

Unless he hasn't signed up for his PWP yet and it wont let him use the one with the dot ?

That's what I would expect:
