In that case I would strongly advise downloading an antivirus program such as Microsoft Security Essentials and running a full scan on your machine.

Once you have done that I suggest you run the system file checker
"sfc /scannow" which should amongst other things validate your OE6 installation.

Perhaps I should point out that (sometimes) I get the message (see my original thread message above)

'local area connection' followed by 'A Network cable has been unplugged'
.. perhaps THIS is the real problem ?

Thanks to all,
COLIN
If you are getting network cable unplugged there is 3 potential for the error, netork card faulty on the machine try anotehr machine, network cable is damaged try another, virign modem is faulty but you need to rule out the firs tbefore virign woudl replace it but you dnt wna tit replace either since you will get a shub :p joke if it faulty you want it replaced

if you have oE6 your comptuer is older i guess? you should hvae anti virus if oyu dnt there could easily be a vrius doign untold tihng on your system, and you cant get oe6 anymore microsoft have stop supporting it ages ago no one supplies install disc sfor it, but you can add remove from xp add and remove and it will reinstll it for oyu

Re: Server Settings for Outlook Express ?

As Andrew says, there could be a virus messing with your OE settings. That's the reason why I suggested running a full virus scan first.

SFC will check all key system files *including* key OE6 components and replace any damaged files. You MAY need an XP system CD to run this tool.

If all else fails you have a couple of other alternatives. You can install Windows Live Mail which is the replacement for Outlook Express or you can do a repair install of XP. This will reinstall OE6 along with the rest of the operating system but will leave your programs and data in place.

What service pack level is your XP?

repair install is only possible if you have the original cd which if it a shop bought one is doubtful shops stop giving the original cd and started giving rescue cds which are basic just a iamge of the syste m
