Thumbs down stupid stupid stupid email

Ive just spent an hour trying to setup another email account, I had 9 email accounts already, and so decided to change one of them.

I changed (example) fred@ntlworld.com to fred@virginmedia.com (it selected @virgimedia.com)

It then tells me it sent an email

Set up office 2010 (Outlook) and tried to get the email, failed on server

tried all combanations on this earth, AND POP3 and IMAP

NOTHING works

tried imap.ntlworld.com pop3.ntlworld.com pop3.virginmedia.com

and everything you can think off

At one time I even tried to login to VM website with new email address and got this;

Quote:
This service is not available
Gmail is not available for virginmedia.com. Learn more about the Google products you can use with xxx@virginmedia.com
If you are the Google Apps administrator, please read these articles to learn more about controlling user access to Google Apps services and turning services on/off for certain users.
Did you use this product with a different Google Account? Sign out of your current Google Account and then sign in to the account you want.
is this fort knox ?

HELP VM customer almost from the start

By the sounds of it you've not set up another e-mail address, you changed the email address used to log into the VM website to an address that doesn't exist

Re: stupid stupid stupid email

I have VM addresses working in Outlook 2010, settings as follows:

Server information:
pop3.virginmedia.com
smtp.virginmedia.com

logon information:
full e mail address plus password

tick require logon using secure password authentication (SPA)

More settings:
Outgoing server tab:
tick my outgoing (SMTP) server requires authentication
tick use same settings as my incoming mail server
Advanced tab:
Incoming server (POP3) 995 in box & tick this server requires an encrypted connection (SSL)
Outgoing server (SMTP) 465 in box & select SSL from the dropdown box for type of encrypted connection

Re: stupid stupid stupid email

I followed those steps and had a confirmation from VM that the address had been set up successfully.
There is a problem at VM apparently - the support agent has escalated it. I figured that if I couldn't get connected to the account with Virgin's own email service, then no Outlook tweaking will help. However, my settings were already as above.
In my case I suspect it may be that the primary email account is @ntlworld.com and the additional account is @virginmedia.com

Re: stupid stupid stupid email

Sorry - no ref no.

It's not a very big issue for me but will post up if I get a resolution.

---------- Post added at 15:34 ---------- Previous post was at 15:31 ----------

first i tried to change what I had, but since i cannot login to the one I changed, i cant get the email confirm from them.

So deleted one account

Set up new account, it lets me login to the VM site, says no billing info etc, but thats normal, so account is made.

Tried all the settings posted here, and lots more..

Contacted VM, NO reply !

Thought id try again, did do this at the time..

However today, it logs into the incoming mail, and says complete !!

Now only fail on sending, will recheck settings again, its saying it cant find smtp

Edit:
Ok, working THANKS

Dont know why these settings didnt work at the time account was made, perhaps have to wait 24 hours or something...

Did it again and again and now works

Thanks

I guess all my old accounts have to keep the old settings (default no SSL) and old ntlworld.com settings
